Does a great job; has replaced my broom
This vacuum does all I intended it to. I'm VERY pleased with it. I purchased my first one a few weeks ago. It was for my daughter who was going off to college and would be sharing an apartment with 3 other girls. I did not want to purchase an expensive vacuum. I saw this Dirt Devil for under $20 and decided to give it a try. I tested the vacuum out at home and ended up loving it for little jobs around the house. So I bought myself one. First of all, this will NOT do the job of a full size and full powered vacuum but then again, I don't think that is it's purpose. I purchased this mainly to use in my laundry room and kitchen in place of a broom and dustpan. I keep my cat's litterbox in the laundry room and she manages to track litter from that room and in to the hallway. I would constantly sweep up but it seemed I never got ALL the litter up and was always stepping on some leftover piece. The kitchen was also a room with lots of "stuff" on it's floor. Leaves from outside, crumbs, etc. I also felt I missed things. Most likely, the broom just didn't catch everything and debris would be left on the floor. This vacuum works great for those areas. The vacuum is very lightweight (about 1-2 lbs.) and easy to carry around. It's a lot better than pulling out the Dyson vacuum which is big and heavy. I use the Dirt Devil every day in the laundry room and kitchen. One added bonus (for me anyhow) is that I can clean my floor mats and rugs with this thing too. The Dyson sucked those rugs right up and I'd end up unraveling rug strings from the beater bar! So to sum it up, this Dirt Devil vacuums my throw rugs, it cleans the tile floors great (it gets up all those annoying bits of litter) and it even works well on our carpet. Admittedly, the Dyson does a much better job on carpet and is a lot more powerful, but for little jobs when you don't want to lug out a heavy, bulky, full sized vacuum, this really does the job well. For costing less than $20 and for using it every day, I love this little vacuum. It is also very easy to clean. When I take out the filter cup I just wipe it with a used dryer sheet and it takes all the lint off. Bigger things that get picked up like the litter pieces just get dumped from the container. I have not tried it as a hand held dust buster type vacuum but I'm sure it would work just as well since it works great as an upright. And lastly, my daughter also loves the vacuum. Cleans up her bathroom floor and even picks up stuff from the shag carpet that is in her bedroom.

Aloha and mahalo from across the ocean.
Thank you for such a wonderful, lightweight, and simple product which I thoroughly enjoy using. I have purchased those so called top of the line vacuum cleaners in my life but I must say this is the first time I have never dreaded having to haul out the old vacuum in order to deal with a quick cleaning issue. The old body just isn't what it used to be so any help I can get is greatly appreciated. This is my first stik vacuum and I'm asking myself why did I wait so long. It is so lightweight that I manage very well even on a bad day! There is more than ample suction power to get the job done and best of all it takes mere seconds to convert to the handheld version. It's fabulous for cleaning the tight areas in the bathrooms. I love it and would definately recommend this product to everyone. My stik arrived earlier than estimated and I paid less than one fourth of the price stores in my town are asking. Love the product and love the price! Just a little update. After a few months of using this product my cousin from who lives out of state and recently purchased her very large dream house called just to touch bases. Well after hearing me rant and rave about your great product unbeknownst to me she too decided to purchase the same thing at a local neighborhood Walmart at a much higher price. If I remember right the price was $25.00, much higher than what I paid I might add. A few weeks later she called to rant and rave about her purchase and just how much she loves your product and how it has also made her cleaning chores so much easier. Her exact words were, ''I just love this stick.'' Just thought you might like to know. Word of mouth travels fast!!! She should have bought it on Amazon, she could have saved $10.00 and it would have been delivered to her front door. It doesn't get any better than that. Great price, great selection, and home delivery!!! Try beating that. Another little pearl of wisdom that might be of interest. The head on this cutie is narrow and flat enough to be an extreme asset when cleaning my cabinets. Instead of the old duster and dust pan and broom, I now just run the stik in the cabinets and vacuum like I would my floors. It saves a lot of time and wasted energy I used before in toting all of my excess cleaning supplies. Hope this helps. Update for December 2017.....I think so highly of this little vacuum that when it went on sale this winter I purchased another one as a back up. If that's not love I don't know what is!!!!!

Okay sorts!
I am writing this review for Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik SD20000RED (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KCO96C/) and also for Eureka Quick-up Cordless 2-in-1 Stick Vacuum, 96H (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LBHGJC), Hence this review will be posted at both product pages. Please scroll down few paragraphs if you want to read only about my Eureka experience. Background: I like to do a lot of reading before buying products. Hence I had bought in the past a Hoover and a Shark Vacuum. I really like the Hoover Rewind (currently priced at $99+tax, featured as one of the best in Consumer reports in terms of suction and not letting out fine dust or pollen escape from its filter). I am fully satisfied with this vacuum cleaner's capabilities but it is 14 Lb in weight and hence not a good choice for some occasional light cleaning work. Hence I needed a handy vacuum to be used occasionally. I also have a Shark Pet Perfect II Hand Vac (SV780), currently priced at $60+tax. Good vacuum; i used it for for some time for occasional cleaning work, but then its battery started to get terribly weak and did not hold any charge, It works less than 5 minutes after full charge - not good anymore. In the past, it did a great job, but one downside was that it did not have any good attachments like narrow nozzles to be used for vacuuming car insides. Nevertheless, a great buy while it lasted Latest Research-work: I read several reviews on Amazon, credible websites and also some news channel clips. Result: I decided to go in for dirt devil one as it was least priced. I wanted something real light weight and good to my pocket. Experience with Dirt Devil: For $20, we should not have high expectations! This vacuum is like a motorized dirt sucking broom and nothing more than that. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Lightweight (2.8 Lb), stands on its own when left in a corner, gets dust from corners of (hardwood) floors effortlessly - am really impressed with this part, ok construction, comes with nozzle crevice attachment that can be used for stairs and narrow spaces Cons: Below average performance on carpets. You need several passes to pick up cookie crumbs or some food particles. Honestly, Dirt-devil should have put a small motorized brush that could have done a better job. Other cons: its wired!, and it needs to be emptied and filter cleaned almost every time you use it (depending on the dirt on floor) Verdict: After the Dirt Devil experience, I now wanted to get a vacuum that does better job on carpets, hence I did some reading and narrowed down on Eureka Quick-up Cordless 2-in-1 Stick Vacuum, 96H (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LBHGJC). I am returning this Dirt Devil as the Eureka has suited me better (read on).... Review on the EUREKA: Based on Amazon reviews, I found this would be a good purchase. For $34+tax, a battery operated vacuum cleaner is a good purchase. The vacuum arrived in 2 days (prime!) and here's what I observed: Pros: Brush more helps this vacuum do a good job on carpets. You can have a non-brush mode for hardwood floors. Other merits: does a good job, and I could do the entire townhome in single charge and the battery was still good to do some more work (townhome has drawing, dining, kitchen on level 1, a flight of stairs, and 2 roomy bedrooms and 2 baths on level above). Battery capacity was really impressive! I also heard (just heard!) that the charging mechanism does not overcharge the battery, hence maintaining its life. That Shark that I used earlier, was a disappointment as overcharging killed its battery. So I am expecting better battery life with Eureka. Another pro: this is wider than the Dirt Devil one hence takes less effort to clean same area. Cons: you need to put extra effort to get dust from hardwood or carpet floor corners - with or without the brush spin mode. This was my biggest disappointment. Also, its construction is cheap, the filter takes some effort to be placed back on after emptying the dust collection cup. Also, there are no accessories like crevice tool. So vacuum can only be used with one default attachment. Final verdict: Owing to the cordless nature, great battery life, ability to be hung on the wall, wider track area, battery operated brush, decent dust collection cup size, I am sticking with the Eureka one and returning the Dirt Devil one. Dirt devil is less priced but it has narrow track clean area, no brush and lesser cleaning capability than Eureka. Also note: both Dirt Devil and Eureka will let out some pollen/ fine dust particles from the filter as they are not the "hepa" filter kind of vacuums - so there should not be any expectations on that. If a vacuum product manager is reading the review, the only advice I would have for enhancements would be to have an even more suction & a better filter that keeps dust / pollen in. I hope technology enhances to that level soon. Thanks for reading!

The sound of silence
The evening at my house typically goes like this: I zombie up the stairs from work and vegetate, the kids grudgingly do their jobs after being reminded thirty-seven thousand times, and the mister comes home and gripes about the substandard quality in carrying out the two small chores allotted to each child. Look, man. I am chronically ill and await surgery and unless I want an intervention for an aneurysm as well, the last thing I need to hear is this four-wall gripe fest. The largest issue here is sweeping. We are in a two-story condo with wood and tile floors. I don't know how in the dickens the floor needs swept so often, but it does. It's like my tweens are composed entirely of crumbs and granola. Tired of this issue, I decided to purchase this. It hasn't been but a couple weeks, but the novelty of a metamorphosing floor sweeper over a broom is enough to make the kids enjoy cleaning the floors. Because of the ways that it can be used, they even volunteered to vacuum both sets of stairs in the front of the house, as well as atop the baseboard. The baseboard! The magnitude of this situation is not lost on me. I digress, yet again. This little thing, especially for the price, is a trooper. It works very well. Yeah, the filter needs to be addressed more often than other hand vacs or comparable vacuums, but I can make peace with that when considering the versatility. It can be irritating, but I don't live in a sprawling estate and chances are that you do not either, so the walk to the trash can is not far. I should also note that I do not own any pets, so only have to address the massive amounts of hair that I personally shed. This miracle stick of wonder has been used on a couple of Persian runners, hardwood floor, tile, and granite. Please don't tell anyone, but I used it to suck up all the remnants of my cooking messes on the stove. I am a messy chef, and if I can manage to make dinner, I sure do not have the energy to actually clean the stovetop. Using the wand attachment, this makes light work of such things. It is very lightweight in any form in which it may be used, and surprisingly quiet. Considering the price point, I expected some corpse-waking noise. None such here! Perhaps you would like your children to vacuum the hordes of granola and trail mix on the back floor of the car? This also does that! Amazing, I tell you Considering how well it has performed, I do not expect that it will die on us on the near future. In the event that it does, this puppy is cheap enough to keep a back stock in the closet. This has to be the best purchase I have made this year, and I most certainly recommend it. My littles treat it like it is a Transformer, so definite plus for being versatile. I will take anything that provides my kids with enough motivation to do their jobs and enjoy (?!) dong so.

Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik Lightweight Corded...
The Vacuum in the picture is not the one you will receive. The one in the picture is the most incredible vac I have ever used. I bought one for my Mother and I and I loved it and wore it out, I loved it so much. Please take note of the differences because the number itself to identify it is the same, even the same manufacturer, but it is not the same as photo. Comparison to see if you got the good one or the bad one. There is clearly a difference. The good one looks exactly like the photo, please look carefully as I tell you. The button is more narrow, the one that is a replacement is larger, almost twice the size. The second thing is the bottom area to clean that detaches to use the hose if you want for the crevice too. The good one has narrow corners and is more square, the bad one has more rounded corners. The good one is black on the bottom and all filled in; the bad one has nothing filling in the bottom and is hollow looking and just the plastic red plastic you can see from the front and the corners are more curved, larger and won't fit into small areas like the good one that is narrow and square. The tool, on the old one I use to have, the good one the tool hooks on nicely, the bad one the tool keeps falling off the vac and is a real pain you know where. Lastly and most important I think is the bag which makes or breaks it and in my case this is my second one sending back. The good one that I use to have and my Mother does too, has a Gray thick Cup in it so the dirt won't get into the motor and picks up so much stuff, that you want to change each time you use it. But the one that they have now, the bad one, the one that doesn't look like it is pictured here has a white cup that is paperish, falls apart in no time, a couple of weeks in fact and I cleaned it each time I used it. When I would pull off the lint that had collected, I would pull out the bag itself as well. The material just is not something that will hold up at all and in no time, the bag will disintegrate and I mean that. So as far as protecting the inside motor, forget that and you likely won't get a month in before you have no cup. The old one I use to have, you could wash the cup each month. I always cleaned it out after each use, but you could do the monthly wash to keep it running awesome. The one you see in this photo to recap has a larger button to take off the bottom to remove the White Clothy Cup that will disintegrate in weeks. This one also has rounded corners, a hollow underneath, not black or filled in, just hollow, cheap, like it could be missing the bottom, but no the second one was the same way, Lastly this one has a crevice tool that will not adhere to the vac. It just keeps falling off as you vac which will drive you threw the roof. So the release button, the curved corner bottom, the hollow underneath, the white dust cup and the crevice holder does not hold good to the vac. I may get a Bissel instead. I'm going to look well and neither one has a small brush for carpets, but even a floor model should pick up better than this one does. Watch the Just Awful Video. That will help you tremendously when it comes to show you it's pick up capacity. Just trying to help, I'm quite discouraged now with the second one to send back. I just want you to not have to go through this ordeal.

Buy if you like to tinker.
I bought this to clean the tile floors. While I do have a shark and love that very much, I do not have the hard-floor attachment, making cleaning my 3 rooms with tile in them a bit of a pain. I received this Nov 9. It did as promised. Clearing my bathrooms, and kitchen of debris on the floor. From cat food to hair balls (non-cat type.) It was even nice to take off the floor attachment and clean under a desk where some pencil shavings had fallen. So as far as a dust buster goes, this is really works! But wait... there's more. On Nove 23, the dirt devil fell over breaking the little latch that holds the base of the actual duster to the motor. Unless you're prepared to tinker with it, (I love it too much to let it go yet), do not buy this. I currently have mine held together with a bread twisty tie. It works... sadly better than the manufactured piece. And while it's *ONLY* $20... I do not feel that, -being less than 30 days old- something that important should be made so insignificantly. No, there are no exchanges, sadly and the warranty, while states will repair worn out items, You have to mail the whole thing to Dirt Devil, then wait. That means money spent on postage and I wouldn't be surprised at this rate to pay for it to get it back... if it even gets replaced at all! Worth the $20? If you're in a pinch and need something right now. Sure. But I'd wait, get the Bissell 3-in-1 or like me, just by the hard-wood floor attachment to my shark!

Cheap, effective, light weight and going strong after 12 years.
I bought this on July 1, 2012. It's is now May 2, 2024 and I have come back 12 years later to say I still use this vacuum and love it. I've had several other hard surface vacuums over these tears and this one has always been my favorite because not only is the suction great, but it's so light weight and easy to use. The only negative I could say about it us the short cord length, but I easily fixed that with a cheap, dollar store extension cord I leave on. It picks up dog hair, crumbs, dirt and dust and even bigger pieces like cheerios. It was $20 when I bought it 12 years ago and still going strong today. I noticed it's now $35, but if thus one broke then I'd buy it again.

UPDATE MAY 2019 - 5 STARS THIS TIME
UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. That could be a record. It’s had a rough life, but everything works, even though I neglected emptying it out after every use and it fell over hundreds of times. It still works just fine. So why buy a new one? Well, when I read the features of this new one, I was drawn. Let’s face it, I was sold. Why? Simply put (pardon the pun): 1 - It really stands up by itself. Really and truly. No overbalancing to make it fall over and trip up the user, as the old one does. 2 - Disconnecting the bottom dust cup for emptying is easier, as the button works well, and it is easy to click back on, unlike the old one, which tends to fight you. 3 - The power of this unit is shocking on the first use. It is indeed powerful. To me, it felt a bit like the kick of the first gun you ever fired. Hang onto it. My cat hates it, because it makes a lot more noise than the old one. I guess she’ll get used to it. 4 - The suction picks up nearly everything it gets near, so be warned. (Paper Towel: now you see it, now you don't.) There's no going over and over a spot, making the task take too long, as the old one does. 5 - Removing the rod, to use as a hand-held, is not a life and death battle. The snap button works like a dream, and you don’t lose all kinds of time fighting with it, as with the old one. 6 - It doesn't have a terrible odor wafting off during operation, only as you'd expect from an electric motor. Not overpowering. Those are good selling points for a reasonably priced, well designed cheap vacuum. Just a few sore spots: 1 - It does make lots of noise. You can’t use it while anyone is sleeping. Trust me. 2 - The motor gets sorta hot in continuous use. Short breaks help. The strength of the motor would seem to be the likely reason. No smoke noticed yet. 3 - As others have said, the crevice tool, although it works very well, just won’t stay where the manufacturer planned for it to be kept. It falls. And falls. If anyone has come up with a way to keep it snapped onto the rod, please - PLEASE let me know. If I should think of something, I will try to pass on the idea here. Hmmm, maybe heavy duty velcro? Worth a shot. Pending..... OK, that’s it. Good little appliance. I like it a lot. And it didn’t break the bank. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx have a Eureka that I bought in 2011 that is still kicking. That makes it almost 6 years old. The crevice tool; is cracked and patched with duck tape. The top and bottom sections are held together by duck tape because the little snap thing wore out. It's noisier than the Dirt Devil. It's also heavier. But it works. Say no more. UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. And it didn’t break the bank. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx UPDATE: June 12, 2016 - I gave in and bought this guy. That Eureka is so heavy it hurts my arm to use it. The Dirt Devil is so light I have no problem using it. It does indeed have a chemical odor emitting during use, as other posters have mentioned. I will off-gas in time. Meanwhile, I use with ventilation.
