Resperate works wonderfully if you put effort into doing it
I personally don't know what I would have done without the Resperate. I went to the hospital initially, on August 1st of this year, because I was told by a doctor that my blood pressure was 260/110. I have no idea how long it had been that high since I never took my blood pressure, always thinking it was low (as it used to be) and that I just had a very high pulse rate since a foot accident a couple of years back. I had suffered a mini-stroke, my right arm was going numb, and my right eye was temporarily partially blinded by the episode. I was in shock, as I only weighed 116 at the time, rarely drank, didn't smoke, and ate very healthy meals. As a 60-year-old woman, this was catastrophic, and I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. I also had extremely high platelets, reaching well over a million during my second hospital stay. I also went to the ER twice after my two hospital stays, scared out of my wits because my blood pressure would not stabilize and was still in the 200s, even with blood pressure pills. I was told that I had "resistant hypertension," which frightened me even more. I thought I would die from this. On October 15 of this year, two and a half months from my first hospitalization, the day my blood pressure readings were still extremely high at 220/110, I received the Resperate in the mail. I had had misgivings and lots of skepticism about it because of the price and whether it would even work for me, but at that point, I had nothing to lose. After a crash course in blood pressure and platelet pills, I could see the writing on the wall, that I needed something more besides the pills, exercise, and eating healthily. I have never turned back after my first Resperate session. BUT - I've used it every single day since then, for at least an hour a day most days except maybe two. I started out using it for an hour and a half for a few months. As I felt more confident about my bp readings, I began using it for an hour. A few times I've used it only 3 times a day instead of 4, 5, or 6. If a day is particularly stressful (which, in evaluating my reasons for having extremely high bp, I determined that I was holding my breath a lot with very shallow breathing, a fight-or-flight syndrome kind of breath that I'd had for decades), I'll lie down and use the Resperate a couple of times to calm down and get lower readings. At first it was difficult to even lie down and be relaxed enough to use the Resperate. My anxiety hit the roof. I was given anti-anxiety pills, which have helped a great deal to help lower my bp for a day, but I use them sparingly. My lifesaver has indeed been the Resperate machine. Now, five and a half months later, my blood pressure is manageable. I have even had a reduction of dose in one of the pills. My ultimate goal is to be off all pills at some point, and with the Resperate, I believe that's possible. I cannot say enough about this little machine and am astounded that more people with high blood pressure aren't using it. When I think of the costs of pills and who knows what side effects they inflict upon the body over time, I think it's worth its weight in gold. And I'm someone who has to pay out of pocket for a lot of medical bills and who has a very high deductible. I don't understand why people use it only a couple of times a week, unless their blood pressure is at borderline hypertension. I would not ever have gotten my blood pressure to the 120s and 130s, some 140s for the most part (occasional spikes included at this point), I don't think, this soon, without having the Resperate machine. In fact, at this point, I'm more worried about my platelets than I am about the blood pressure. I can control the blood pressure with the Resperate and with being mindful about my breath and stress/anxiety, but my platelets must still be experiencing inflammation from the medical catastrophe I went through recently. I would recommend anyone to the Resperate!!! But the time has to be put into it in order to reap the tremendous rewards. I know that it's working for me, big time, and I feel that it can work for anyone who puts the time and effort into it. I truly don't know where I'd be without it. It's helped save my life, I'm certain of that. The pills can only do so much. The Resperate is the real champion here. God bless the man who invented this!!!

Really Remarkable Results in Each Session in Lowering Diastolic Especially
This is one of those tools that only works if you have the discipline to use it regularly. The initial set up can take a little adjusting - for me around the chest worked best, and the exact placement of the sensor took a few tries to be correct. Be patient the first few times and get this right and you won't be interrupted during the session with requests to tighten or loosen the sensor. Just finished a 10 minute sessions and took my BP before and right after. It lowered systolic by 18 points, and dystolic by an astounding 41 points. I recently had a severe allergic reaction to an ace inhibitor medication after years of taking it - ended up in the ER. I have had a few days with no medication while we work out what I should take. My BP was spiking sans medication, so I took it seriously that I needed to try everything else I could to keep this from happening - those spikes can be very damaging. I have always believed strongly in biofeedback type therapies - your mind is an incredible thing and can really help you self-regulate. I think that is why I like this more than just doing deep breathing/meditation. You get immediate feedback. For example, it first measures my normal breathing at the high BP mark at 16 breaths per minute. Within minutes it gets me into the therapeutic zone of 10 breaths a minute. Then the biofeedback aspect of seeing that number drop encourages me to slow down, take deeper breaths and relax. By the end I was hovering between 4.5 and 5 breaths per minute. I close my eyes, but open them every minute to see where I am, then try to slow down more. My goal is to not have to take medication because recently I have become more sensitized to all these substances - maybe menopause/hormone changes? I've got a list of every food known to lower BP and I've cut out all processed foods. I believe this device will not only help me while using it, but will remind me during the day that if I'm feeling stressed I can slow down my breathing and relax.

Resperate ASIN:B0007N0Y3E
I thought at first it was going to work well but then with continuing use I was not getting any needed improvement. The program has the intended goal of lowering your breathing rate which it seemed to be teaching. But with the time being lengthened for each breath I was frustrated with the difficulty of determining the breath-in tone from other tones that I thought was breath out but it wasn't.Although I was getting an efficiency rate of about 57% it was not helping my blood pressure. I was since prescribed a hot eye compress over each eye for a dry eye problem to be done twice a day for 15 minutes and it was also dropping down the blood pressure so I am not likely to use the resperate method. Resperate for Blood pressure
I am using this once a day, usually in the evening. It is calming, much like Yoga music and breathing. I am one of the users that has some trouble falling to sleep while using but believe the breathing and relaxation time will eventually do some lowering for me. I have not had this unit for very long and have a very stubborn blood pressure that I have had for years. This will be a good testing for my blood pressure. I believe people with elevation that is pushing them toward medicine should see good results. My blood pressure is some better but am doctoring right now for adjustment in medications. I will inform later of my results as time goes on. There are so many good reports on this Resperate, that I just had to give it a good try. I caught the 90 dollars off sale. Otherwise, I felt very expensive.

may as well shred your money for a ticker tape parade
I guess this product may work a bit if your hypertension is caused by too rapid, too shallow breathing otherwise forget about it. The machine prompts you to inhale and exhale to musical tones until your breath rate reaches 10 breaths per second then it lowers your breath rate to the point that if you follow the cues your breath rate will get down to about 4 1/2 breaths per minute. The problem with this is the manual suggests not letting your rate fall below 5 breaths per minute so then why doesn't it stabilize around 6 breaths per minute? When I contacted customer service I NEVER got a response. This is a sure sign of a company selling a ripoff product. I've had it for a few months and it mostly had no effect on my blood pressure but what was worse is that on a few occasions I took my blood pressure before using the Resperate and after where my blood pressure was actually HIGHER afte using the product.

Best for those who struggle with the basics of staying healthy
I am glad this product is available. Not for me, but perhaps for the majority of people who are not aware of the huge benefits of slow, deep relaxed breathing. If you are disciplined, and you are practiced, at yoga, relaxation response, or meditation, this product will seem a bit silly. You can save 300. bucks by following this advice: Take slow deep breaths for 10-15 minutes a day, take less than 10 breaths per minute, and try to do less if you can, but not below 5. Do this every day and watch your blood pressure go down. Thats it. I think they could send a CD with the same tracks on it and give you90% of what this things does. I sent mine back and opted to just do the breathing with my cheap timer...Kudos to this company for making a drug free way to lower blood pressure. It will help a lot of people i am sure

provides deep sleep
Several reviews I read, said that it helped with sleeping, as well as blood pressure reduction. That feature alone sold me on trying it. Often I wake up during the night and have difficulty getting back to sleep. On the second or third day I had the machine, I tried it just before going to bed. That relaxed me and it seems to work really well. I find that I now sleep soundly, and if I am awakened by the dog, I still get right back to sleep. Also I find I seem to have more dreams using the machine. It does drop my blood pressure right after use, but it is too early to tell if it will reduce it all the time. It takes 4 to 6 weeks of use for that. I use the machine for two 10 minute secessions each day, 4:30 pm and just before going to bed. The headset was defective when I received it, and Amazon customer service service has not answered my email asking if I could just return the headset. Resperate would not exchange it. I just bought another headset because I did not want to send back the machine. Also I sent an email to customer service saying that the online rebate form did not accept my email address or order number. I did receive an answer to call them or forward my email to a different customer depertment. When I called they had me fill out the online form again while they were on the phone, and again it was not accepted. So I was told to just mail it in. But if the online rebate does not recognize the order number, it makes me wonder if the mail-in rebate will go through. It is expensive, so that is a concern.

It Actually Worked for me
It actually worked, after the first week I'm regularly reading around 120/80. I've struggled with high blood pressure for a few years now. When I first realized I had high blood pressure there was no obvious explanation. I was already in fantastic shape cardio and weight wise so the easiest way to improvement in BP was already closed. I was running around 150/100 before I started a vitamin regimen which reduced it to just below 140/90 (With occasional spikes). I tried meditation, an extreme low sodium diet, running 40+ miles a week, sleep regulation ect.. and nothing could get me much below that 140/90 average. I was at wits end on how to reduce it much more without prescription medication which I want to avoid when I tried RESPeRATE. I'd seen it online several times in my research on how to lower my own BP but was put off by the price and the simplicity of the device. My own efforts at breathing control had not amounted to much. Finally I gave in and ordered it. Surprise, IT WORKS! I measure my BP regularly as well as immediately before and after use and have noticed some substantial changes almost overnight. My average BP throughout the day has dropped substantially and I even recorded a personal best of 117/73 in the middle of the day! Other reviewers have complained that it raises BP. I have seen this as well once my daily average BP bottomed out at 120/80 but it's only temporary immediately after use. Your daily average BP is much lower with regular use of this product. Someone else also mentioned that they sleep better after using it. I would have to agree at least initially. During the first week of use I would be exhausted after using it and sleep like a rock for some reason but that effect has also worn off. Of the 4 guiding tones for breathing I found the default guiding tone highly annoying but it's actually the most effective. I end up falling asleep or losing the pace as my thoughts wander with the more relaxing tones. I think the annoyance of the default tone causes me to pay attention to my breathing more and focus on RESPeRATE. I would highly recommend this product, the setup and use is simple a calm voice explains what you need to do through the headset and you breath, pretty simple. I still dont know why this thing is as expensive as it is but it works so I wont complain too loudly. If you've tried everything else and it didnt work than try this.
