Top Choice for Durability, Convenience, and Usefulness - Exercise Mats, Not Just Equipment Support/Floor Protection
I looked at a great number of options before selecting this mat (bought 2), and I couldn't be happier with my choice. One advantage for me is that this mat is larger than most offered in the "exercise" and "equipment" categories on most Web sites. The extra square-footage offered a better fit for the space available in my exercise area, which was important in protecting the carpet in a rented apartment. The two mats, together, provide an almost perfect fit, while offering plenty of space for my purpose--exercise, not equipment support. With regard to equipment support, however, I can say that the treadmill in my exercise area would be supported much better by one of these mats than it is by a discount store pad, which is what it now stands on. No comparison in quality between the mat being reviewed and the equipment pad in use now. The mat wins, hands down. For a small apartment, with limited open floor space, the fold-up feature of these mats is a real winner. The folded size of the mat (36Lx12Wx1.5H) makes it easy to store under a bed or other furniture, or even on a shelf in a closet, as the weight of each mat is quite manageable for overhead storage. The "folds lines" for each 12" section are somewhat thinner than the "mat" sections, which is what allows the sections to be folded, but the relative thinness in no way compromises the durability of the mat. I've used the mats for several months, folding and unfolding regularly, and there are no signs of wear or deterioration of either the folds or the section surfaces. The convenience of folding for storage, along with the compact, folded size, has made the mats the perfect choice for exercise where floor protection is necessary. I've had the interlocking squares, roll-out mats, yoga mats, etc., and none compare with the quality and durability of this fold-up mat. The mat's textured surface provides a bit of grip, even when exercising with socks on the feet. The surface is even more "grippy" when barefoot. The mat can be used with either side "up," so you don't have to wrestle with deciding how to unfold the mat for use. The folds keep the mat from lying completely flat, due to the "memory effect" of the material after being folded, but the effect isn't enough to cause any real problems when exercising. I've never tripped over a fold, for example, as the very slight protrusion isn't enough to cause tripping. Only mentioned here because the mat doesn't lie perfectly flat when unfolded after being stored, then used again for short duration before being folded again. I'm not sure whether the mat would flatten completely if left unfolded for a period of time, but I suspect the slightly raised areas would eventually flatten completely. I can imagine the mat might shift during exercise when placed over some surfaces, but I haven't experienced that problem when placed over fairly dense carpet. The "slipping" problem could be addressed easily with some strategically placed Velcro or tape or weights. For exercising, this mat (2x, in my case) has been an excellent choice: quality material, easy to move and to store, protects the carpet perfectly, provides some cushioning for exercise, and is inexpensive compared to a number of other options. Highly recommended, based on my experience.

sturdy and folds up out of the way perfectly
I was hesitant to purchase because of some of the reviews but I have to say its been 6 months of daily use and this is just what I was looking for. Its sturdy and folds up nicely when treadmill is up or down. I was VERY careful to just roll the treadmill straight on the mat (front to back) and not to move it side to side as some reviewers had trouble with tearing. It rolled right on with no issue and the treadmill is big and heavy. The mat protects the new carpet which is what I was looking for. The treadmill feet made divot marks in the old carpet so I wanted something to protect the new carpet. I found the large furniture moving discs at Home D and put them under the feet so that when the treadmill comes down, the feet land on the discs. perfect. No carpet divots and no marks from the mat on the light carpet either. The folding feature makes it easy to fold out of the way. Good purchase for what I needed it for and seems durable so far.

This thing is simply amazing.
I bought a Bowflex Treadclimber about a week ago and didn't think anything of putting it on my hardwood floor. But after I exercised I noticed that sweat was pooling on the floor. I also noticed that as we broke the machine in it was creating little pieces of residue that settled to the floor. I decided then that maybe we did need a floor cover. I went to their site and found a mat for an astonishing $99. I left that site and came over to Amazon. I found this little mat and watched the video on it. The size dimensions could work I figured as it was wide enough and could be folded up nice for the space we have it in. When it arrived I threw it on the floor and laid it next to the machine. I sized it up. It wasn't hard. I wasn't sure if I could reverse some of the pre-folds but it turned out to be a non-issue. Placing it under the machine took some doing but that's clearly not a comment on this mat. Once under I found it to be perfect sized both length and width wise. It's hiding any little residue, keeping it off my floor, and it's easier to wipe up sweat. Plus, I'm not worried about the sweat just sitting there as I workout. It gives great support to the machine as well. I highly recommend this product!

Gym Equipment Mat
I bought this mat for my ProForm Smart Strider Elliptical a couple of years ago, and it fits perfectly. It stays in place well with no slipping, even during longer workouts. I’ve used it on concrete, wood floor boards, PVC flooring and it did a good job protecting all of the surfaces. The mat is a little thinner than I expected but there’s been no ripping or tearing so far. Overall, it’s a solid mat for the price and works well if you need basic floor protection.

High Quality and Convenient Mat
This is a pretty nice mat that I've used both on my carpet (giant area rug) and wood floors with no damage to the flooring. It's made of some type of heavy-duty material that's pretty durable feeling, and mildly squishy. It has never moved or slipped on me, and it's quite difficult sliding my equipment around the room on it even if I intentially want it to. There are two sides to this mat which confused me at first since I didn't know which side was supposed to be face down, or up. One side is smooth, and the other is bumpy and coarse. According to the photo which came with the packaging the coarse side with the logo is supposed to be upward (which makes sense as it causes traction for equipment) and the smooth side faces down. I've noticed the equipment I use with this mat ( Schwinn A40 Elliptical Trainer ) leaves indentations in the mat where the footings are, although this is not a bad thing. Also, since my Elliptical Trainer doesn't need the full length of the mat I fold one section (each section is about 1.5 feet) on both ends underneath to keep it contained to a smaller square. Because of the folding it causes a little pocket which I've tripped over once or twice, but this is more because of the tiny space I have it in, as well as my lack of balance and stride. If something ever happened to this mat, such as an epic chain saw accident or a burglars need for excellent exercise equipment mats, I would buy this again. For the price the quality seems exceptional, and it's convenient being able to fold it in the event I ever replace my Elliptical without having to worry if the new one will fit my mat.

Great for Cardio Video Workout Platform, Muffles Noise
I live in a wonderful Victorian in San Francisco, so gorgeous but the hardwood floors aren't insulated. I turned 30 this year and started getting serious about keeping my figure so the plan was to wake up at 5:30am to workout in the mornings but I was worried it would annoy my neighbors on cardio days. I wanted something to ease the noise from jumping around to cardio videos, large enough that I wouldn't have to shorten the moves too much, quick and easy to take out and put away, wouldn't slide around or tear during things like jump lunges and jacks, and not so sticky that I would tweak a knee catching my shoes on it while pivoting during cardio. This wonderful mat actually met all those requirements. It is the perfect thing to layout for a workout and I haven't received any complaints from my neighbors so it does muffle the sound. After a month of daily, sometimes twice a day, use it still looks new. There are two sides so I put the stickier one towards the floor and the smoother side is perfect for moving around with gym shoes. It is really thick and has some heft to it so for a coordinated cardio person it stays perfectly in place. Yes, this mat does get slippery when you take your workout shoes off and put moist feet on it to stretch so I just lay down my yoga mat on top. If it was sticky enough like a yoga mat to hold you in downward dog then it would be a terrible cardio mat so this isn't really a complaint just something to be aware of. I actually still lay this firm mat down and put my yoga mat on top while I do my yoga videos because it is so much more comfortable than just having my hardwood floors underneath. One of my more useful workout purchases to date :)

Perfect mat for my needs (carpet, treadmill, renter)
I rent, I have zero control over my flooring, and it's all carpet. I wanted a treadmill and I have high-er pile carpet, so I needed a mat. The treadmill I got was easily moveable, so I needed a mat that would be just as versatile. This baby was perfect -- longer than I needed it to be, unfolded and laid flat right away, folds back up like a breeze. Best of all--NO disgusting plastic or rubbery off-gas smell unlike most other mats I've been around. Even after leaving my treadmill on it for several months, the grooves quickly popped back into shape and you'd never know the treadmill had been on it at all. Would absolutely buy from this brand again.

Perfect for P90X
Looked at lots of mats to lay down on my hardwood floor for P90X3. This mat in particular has four great features that I feel should definitely earn it a 5-star rating for this purpose: 1. Great surface area - 84" x 36" as opposed to the 24" x 70" that's typical of other mats in this class. If you're planning to use it for a P90X program you'll definitely be glad for the extra surface area, especially for any jumping or lunging exercises. 2. Rugged build - before buying this mat I had an old standard yoga mat and the surface on this seems much, much more durable. Again, something you're going to want for the jumping, landing, agility moves. 3. Perforated fold-up design both convenient for storage and provides great distance markers all along the length of the mat. 4. Not so plush as other models - this one is a mixed bag. It's a bit less comfortable on the knees or tailbone than plusher-style yoga mats, but the greater firmness over most other mats makes it more suitable for balance exercises, and again I think is part of the tradeoff for the durability you'll want. Having purchased this mat and used it a bit for P90X, I'm very pleased with the choice. I'm going to combine it with a thick, plush-style 24x70 yoga mat that I'll reposition on the fly as needed for a bit more cushion when I need it so that I can get the best of both!

it was perfect for me,
I didnt like a thick mat. I liked the mat to be a little cushioned. I liked the mat to be something soft enough to exercise on, and also tough enough to be used under a heavy equipment mat without any slip with hard grip to floor. Stamina fold to fit, had all these features for me. I needed the length to be 8.5 feet that I can use it under concept 2 rower, but this one was only 7 feet. It is nice if Stamina sells the mat with longer than 7 feet for rower. My solution was to cut one foot from fold line and put this piece under front feet of rower. Still no slip. Would recommend this mat. If you want a mat for barbell workout, this is not for you, but if you want for under equipment, or a mat to stretch on, this is perfect mat for this purpose.

Love this equipment mat
Love this equipment mat! Needed something to put under our new exercise bike to protect the carpet flooring in our rec room. This mat is good because you can fold it to fit your equipment. Great for the bike or could be used for a larger piece of equipment if unfolded. We folded it once on the front end and once on the back end and it is perfect for our bike.
