Grounded and accessible
I thought this was really good. Nice and clear, grounded, solid reasoning, and concretely applicable to real life. I've read hundreds of these kind of books and I really appreciate when the material is presented in a grounded and accessible way like it is here.

DUPLICATION ALERT!
This is one of my favorite Ayya Khema books, but be aware it's a word for word copy of another Ayya book published under the title "When The Iron Eagle Flies". Both books are published by Wisdom Publications and it really raises question about their integrity when they publish the same book under two different titles.

Good book
This is a good beginning book for those interested in Theravadan Buddhism. Even though I've practiced this form for many years, this book has continued to educate me. I purchased another copy for my son, who is just starting on this path.

Worth reading.
Ayya Khema writes clearly and succinctly. This is not my favorite book by her, but it is a good book, particularly for anyone new to buddhism.

Another brilliant book by Ayya Khema
Another brilliant book by Ayya Khema. As the other books I've read by this author, this guide to Buddhist meditation is written in an exceptionally clear and accessible style, and I would highly recommend it to both beginners and more advanced practitioners. I find that Ayya Khema's advice and guidance really helps me in my everyday life, in a way that's practical and easy to remember.

A practical guide to meditation.
This book is a transcription of Ven. Ayya Khema's talks given during a meditation retreat on the invitation of Pema Chodron. Ven. Khema's teachings are direct and simple. She teaches body scans techniques, the basics of jhana practice and how it all links to the Buddha's exposition of dependent origination. She explain in a clear way how to break off the chain of becoming, emphasizing how to dissolve the craving link. The question and answers sections are illuminating. For exemple, one student says she had an insight that she felt her body didn't belong to her and that she had to take care of it as if it where somebody's else, bringing Ayya Khema to confirm this as a sign of great progress on the path. The students, Vajrayana practitioners used to visualization techniques, often misenterpret Ven. Khema's instruction on mindfulness of the body, which lead her to give succinct explanation on how to see reality as it is without mental constructions, which is the essence of Vipassana meditation. Pema Chodron and her students are to be commended for organizing this retreat given by a teacher from a different school, which is a great benefit to all buddhist traditions.

Ayya Khema is one of those writer who can explain and convey the biddhist message without all the jargon. She comes straight to the point of the s6bject and leads the reader on a journey into the heart of buddhism. A wonderful read. The book will help take you deeper into the heart of buddhism than many of those books that use a lot of jargon.
