Bates Men's GX-8 Composite Toe Side Zip Work Boot

One Month Review: This was to replace my oversize and overworked shoes. I work in a -5 degree freezer in 8-12 hour shifts walking on all concrete- stepping on and off forklifts. I'm a hard working man with a tough job, through and through and I am no new guy to the field.These shoes do fit as expected, however i found the soles to be very uncomfortable like walking on a flat hard surface. So i ordered new insoles just as slim to make it bearable to the end of the day. However after 10 days of wearing it the heel of the shoe just above the ball of your ankle became a incredible painful irritation every time you step forward.. to the point i was walking sideways slightly. I would rotate shoes..for two days and these shoes 2 days. Only because my feet could not handle it. In fact and more to the point...after one month I looked inside the shoe and found the inside back near the ball of my foot to be wearing out and already through the fabric! Behind this is the hard surface you find on the outside of the durable boot. Limited insulation and pain every time you step.. Throughout this process i would adjust the shoe laces looser or tighter depending on if it alleviated my symptoms to no relief. Yanking every single cord as tight as possible, or leaving the boots unzipped. No relief.I just want you all to know my experience and wonder if you did anything to help this or perhaps yours are just fine for your feet. Have you ever worn a hiking boot or your home grown shoes that snuggle your feet and just feel great? These are not it.I wish you luck on your online Boot Purchasing experience.

Just echoing all the the other positive reviews. Had my last pair for 5 years. If the tread hadn't worn nearly smooth, I'd still be wearing them

The Zipper is awesome. These boots are holding up very well. At least as well as Redwings Ive owned. The Brahma boots (from wallyworld) would have broken down by now. Im not seeing any signs of the leather or nylon breaking down yet. All of the stitching is fine.The soles are in good shape still. Nice and lightweight as you'd expect. After 7 months of wear in factory, construction, and outdoor use I can safely say these are good quality boots that won't come apart in half a year. One thing to note is that there is ZERO insulation value. I step out of the van when its 25 degrees out and in about 4 seconds I feel the cold on the top of my foot. I step out when its 85 degrees and sunny and in about 4 seconds feel the suns fire on the top of my foot. Wear appropriate socks and its not too bad. However if you work outside ALL the time, I would recommend another style.

I have never felt so comfortable in a boot. I usually take my shoes off as soon as I get home but these are just so comfortable I forget to take them off. I love the zipper on the sides. Besides this being such a comfortable boot for a tactical boot, they are super stylish and I love that they look like they are from the future. Stylish and practical this boot is the best of both worlds. I have only had them a few weeks and they are so nice I have not taken them through water, mud and dust so I cant rate them on that but for everyday regular use I couldn't ask for more

I have been loyal to Belleville boots for years, but wanted to try a more athletic style shoe and to see how the zipper and composite toe (versus steel toe Belleville) worked with these.My next pair will be Bellvilles. I ordered extra wide, but my toes are squished in these. I thought the athletic fit and soul would be more pliable, and I thought the lighter toe may lead to less fatigue... after a month and a half of wearing these five days a week, they still don't feel comfortable and broken in and it's a relief most days when I get to take them off. I have no complaints about the quality of the materials, and for other users with other expectations they may work great, but I will certainly go back to the summerweight, vented steel toe, competitor next time. For reference, I started wearing these boots in the military and now work construction.

Well, I've had these boots for just about 4 years. The zipper on the right boot failed for the first time, which means I am now looking for a replacement. For me, a work boot that lasted 4 years is pretty good, hence the 4 stars.I have gone hiking in them (not much, and only from having accidentally brought the wrong boots). They were surprisingly comfortable and I didn't get any blisters even after the 12 miles.They are not the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. The main discomfort I've felt is in the toe box. But they have never been painful, just a mite uncomfortable.They've lasted through many hours of all sorts of work. They are definitely in the running to purchase again, but I'll also look into other options.

Toe cap too narrow so after wearing 4 hours I’ve had to take them off. Total waste of time and money waiting over 2 month for delivery and £250 down the drain

Hace ya años que uso está marca por mucho los mejores zapatos que jamás e tenido tenía 2 pares las de campaña y las de caminar e adquirido estas para sustituir a estas últimas pues el desgaste después de 2 años su uso continuado las avia dedo bastante deterioradas espero que salgan igual de buenas

Awesome boots. Less comfortable than the goretex leather ones. Gave me some blisters. But feet got used to them. Not waterproof.

Great boot, very comfortable but I am having trouble putting boot on using vip ups, very tight fit may have to be broke in more.
