Very Good meter worth the price
When buying a TDS tester I suggest that you also get the HM Digital TDS Calibration Solution (342 PPM) to periodically re-calibrate your HM Digital TDS meter or HM Digital Water Quality Tester. It is available through Amazon for around $9.00, and is worth having to periodically check your drinking waters TDS level. This meter performed very well. I first tested the meter with the calibration solution. I took three readings with this solution before measuring tap water, purified bottled water, and Reverse Osmosis filtered water. All readings were taken at a room temperature of 75 degrees, but water temperature was not tested, nor was the PH of the water. Calibration Solution: Reading #1 gave 328 PPM, #2 gave 331 PPM, #3 gave 336 PPM. I followed the direction each time I took a reading, and gave the TDS meter several minutes to air dry in between readings ( about 5 minuets) During this time the TDS solution was covered.. I noticed that each time I tested the solution the reading went higher. So I took two more readings following the same procedure as before. Reading #4 330 PPM, Reading #5 329 PPM. I have to think that the meter is fairly accurate. Readings were all in the plus or minus 3% range. Next I tested purified bottled water Reading #1- 3 PPM, Reading #2- 5PPM, Reading #3- 3PPM. Then I tested Reverse Osmosis water after changing the filters two days before this testing. My R/O test range was between 15-22 PPM Regular tap water is a very "Hard" water out here in the Desert Southwest. It ranged from 185 to 240 PPM. Pretty awful . We don't drink the water out of the tap unless we have to. The result show a fairly accurate and good TDS tester. I believe some of the variances in the readings may be attributed to water temperature and or PH or both. Even though I gave this tester a 5 star rating I would invest a few extra dollars for the model that has the (ATC) automatic Temperature control compensator , and the PH tester. This meter did perform as advertised , and performed well. It is worth the price, and for now I'm happy with it. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Accurate and Reliable TDS Tester for Shrimp Tank Owners
As a shrimp tank owner, having an accurate and reliable TDS tester is a must, and the HM Digital TDS-EZ Water Quality TDS Tester is an excellent choice. With a measurement range of 0-9990 ppm and a 1 ppm resolution, this tester provides precise and reliable readings with a 3% readout accuracy. One of the best features of this tester is its simplicity. It's easy to use, and the instructions are clearly labeled on the device itself. It shows the typical TDS of various types of water, including spring water, tap water, and more. This makes it easy to track the changes in your water parameters and mineral content over time, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy shrimp tank. While some reviewers have noted that the device is not waterproof and may require careful handling, I have not experienced any issues with its durability. Additionally, I appreciate the compact and portable design of the device, making it easy to store and transport. Overall, I highly recommend the HM Digital TDS-EZ Water Quality TDS Tester for shrimp tank owners looking for an accurate and reliable tool to monitor their water parameters. It's a great value for the price, and I've found it to be an indispensable part of my regular maintenance routine.

Interesting product
Very interesting product. Have tried it on my 10step purifyer and tap. They both read ~33PPM which is better than I thought. Wave Enviro 10 Stage Water Filter System is the water filter used. Am going to verify with water from lab that has been distilled with .2 micron filtration to see if difference Update: So after analyzing with my tap water versus the purifier above I obtained the same results more or less of 27 PPM. According to the guidelines that is good drinking water. (Location in Anderson, SC). I can tell a clear differnce in taste of water but I figured the water would be more pure. Update 2: While my wife was in lab she tested the tap water in her facility and deionized water which purifies to .2microns. The tap water measured 17PPM which is excellent. The de-ionized water measured 0PPM!!. I am truly amazed that it actually worked. So after evaluating it does measure accurately. Note: Just because it has lower PPM does not mean water will taste better. In my experiment I tried all the waters. The tap water tasted harder in both updates. The de-ionized water had no taste at all and is comparable to distilled water which I used to drink a lot when I was younger

5-star ratings from us are hard to earn - this one is
We're using this as part of our own production of colloidal silver. I built a colloidal silver generator from some detailed plans on the internet after considerable research, and followed the maker's instructions fully. He happened to mention what a TDS meter should read at the end of a specified time using his recommended process, and this meter was spot-on. I am aware that there may be a problem getting an "accurate" reading when measuring colloidal silver with ANY meter - I don't know, I'm not a chemist. But when I checked it with normal tap water, it was well within the range our water is reported to be by the water company. So I have every reason to believe this meter is measuring what it should measure. It's very easy to use, almost instant, and for the money it simply can't be beat. For non-lab use, why pay more? For all I know as a non-chemist, it may even be good enough for lab use, too - I just don't have the background to properly evaluate that. Bottom line: for the purpose for which we're using it, it does just fine, and the price was definitely right. Note that we are very cautious with 5-star ratings just so we don't water down the rating process. This one appears to very much warrant such a rating.

Great for Hardness Testing of Tap and Filtered Water
This unit worked exactly as I hoped. I read the reviews and bought the slightly more expensive unit with temperature compensation. This is well worthwhile to ensure consistent measurement over varying water temperature. The unit is very easy to use although the button labels are hard to read. There is a quality reference scale printed on the back of the unit which is very useful. I verified that our tap water impurity level was around 200 which is ideal and aligned with a separate water test I did (see separate review). I also tested our "Perfect Water" filtration unit (see separate review) which showed a measurement of less than 10 (i.e. that the mineral content of our tap water had been reduced from 200 to less than 10 by the four stage filter) thus proving that the filter was working perfectly and also giving confidence in this great little measuring device (the filtered water tasted great but that isn't an indication of quality). If you are fitting a whole house humidifier with electric conduction steam generation, the water MUST be above a minimum level of hardness (i.e. the house water should not be softened) for these to work. This device could be used to verify that your water is suitable for this type of humidifier. Note that this device will NOT test water safety, it only indicates the levels of minerals in the water (i.e. hardness). You should still do comprehensive water testing if you are in any doubt about your water quality.

Meter was ok at low tds. Horrible at higher tds's
this is a great ppm pen, right out of the box it was accurate. tested my tap water and nestle pure life water. my tap was around 134, and the nestle pure life was around 60, compared the readings with my friend 80 dollar blue lab ppm and gave the same results. One thing though its noy water proof so you have to be very careful. Other than that great pen at a great price. Update 08/13/2014 I initially gave this item 5 stars but I had to lower to 3 for several reasons. I read all the other reviews but I could never find a direct comparison of the hm digital tds ez versus the hm digital tds-3 or any other models. So I created one to help someone make the best decision and get the most bang for your buck. While the hm digital tds ez meter is pretty accurate versus my hm digital tds 3 or hm digital aqua pro 1 at lower tds concentration it varried greatly at higher concentrations. I know the hm digital tds ez meter isn't temperature compensated like the other two but I tested water of the same temperature 77 degrees f. I took 2 tests one with straight tap water and one mixed with a low dose of mild nutrients. The tap water was rated 102 ppm on both hm digital tds-3 & hm digital aqua pro 1. The ppm how ever read 134 on the hm digital tds ez meter. Not bad considering it was only 32 ppm off. It wasn't as accurate but was still fairly accurate considering it is not temperature compensated as the other to are although I tested it at the optimum temperature of 77f. But when i tested the higher concentration solution my hm digital tds-3 and hm digital aguapro 1 both read 218 however the hm digital tds ez meter read 341 ppm. Off by over 120 ppm. I repeated this test three times turning each of the three unit's off and then back on and the results were the same every time. I would not recommend the hm digital tds ez. For a couple bucks more you can get a much more accurate quality meters. Also I like that the hm digital aqua pro 1 although not completely water proof (you can't submerge it) it is water resistance in case you drop it in water you can grab it quickly without it being damaged (lol lost two hm digital tds -3 to dropping them in water)'it also displays the tds & temperature simultaneously and has a magnetic back so you can put it on your refrigerator. The only draw back is it's max level it can read ppm's at is 5000 vs 9990 of the other two. I never go over 2000 ppm so this wasn't a issue for me. Hope this helps.

Buen y preciso testaje del agua.
Es algo caro pero funciona perfectamente. Lo compré para testar el agua del grifo y el agua que sale de la osmosis inversa. También sirve para medir cualquier tipo de aguas , piscina , acuarios etc...

Seems good
Seems good for the price and I presume reasonably accurate - measured 180 ppm in my tap water, which is about what I expected for semi hard water and 15 for my new RO filter water. Useful to check if my RO filter is remaining effective (or not) over time. This ez version seems intended for retail customers and has a useful sticker on it indicating what different TDS levels mean.
