Excellent product and a ππππthank you to the reviewers here !ππππ
πππππ±a review from Mrs. Lπ±ππππ First of all, I think of all of the products I have ever purchased from Amazon, the reviews of this cat food for cats with kidney disease were the most important for me to read. πππThank you to everyone who expressed their honest opinion about this product. πππ The reviews really helped me with a difficult decision to switch to this product which was different than the product my vet originally recommended when my poor cat went into kidney failure. πThank you thank you thank you. π I firmly believe this product, which my cat loved and tolerated better than another product, which needed vet paperwork to purchase . . . Helped my cat to live an extra year. When my cat went into kidney failure, my vet indicated that she had a poor prognosis and probably only had another 6 months or so to live. She recommended a specialized diet for poor renal function. My cat never liked this particular brand of food, but I was resolved to use this food in hopes of helping my cat. It was also incredibly expensive. At times, it was also difficult to order. One day, I attempted to reorder this brand my vet recommended, but it was going to take an extraordinary amount of time to arrive and required a vet prescription. After reading the reviews here on Amazon, of Hi-Tor Neo Diet for Cats, I ordered a case of it. I called my vet to tell her that I had to order a different brand of cat food and she said that this was a good choice and was a good product. Oooookay! My cat loved it. She ate it with gusto up until the last week before she died. I really felt that the Hi-Tor brand gave my cat extra months to live. I think it also made her happy eating it. Sixteen years ago, we found her abandoned in the woods. A tiny, fluffy little tuxedo kitten. She was extremely malnourished and starved for food and attention. She was so tiny when we found her, we thought she was about 8 weeks old. When we took her to the vet, we found out she was probably 5 months old. It broke our hearts to see her so neglected and bedraggled. When she ate kitten food, she growled and choked the food down as fast as she could. Throughout her life, she always had a special relationship with food. Eating was a big deal for her. So, when she enjoyed the Hi-Tor food, we were grateful for the product for more reasons than its benefits for her failing kidneys. And, we really do think it helped her to live longer. πππππ Great cat food. It really did what it was supposed to do for our little cat!

Was Worth a Try....
I've been using this product for about 9 months, and have had to take my cat off of it. In the beginning, it seemed to help, but after 3 months, she began to have issues using the bathroom (#2) and had another UTI (not related to the cat food). It was very hard to watch her struggling to defecate or only some of it would come out and she would drag her butt across the floor throughout the house, trying to get the rest out. This was just as frustrating for her as it was for me to have to watch it and then clean up the aftermath. She had very hard stools, and there were times here I actually had to give her an enema to help get them out. Suspecting the food, I put her on regular canned cat food, and she had soft stools again, more energy, and seemed happier. She was diagnosed as having possible kidney issues based on creatinine and BUN testing, and was having trouble with the offerings of the Science Diet products. She lost weight, she seemed a little too lethargic for me, but did make fewer trips to the water dish. The food probably helped correct something the vets *thought* was an issue, but this was not a product that had any sustaining value for my cat. She has been weaned off of this product and onto a mixture of kibble and non-dietary canned cat food. She has gained 2 lbs. back, has been more active, and has done things I haven't seen her do in almost 2 years. I will be taking her to the vet to be re-evaluated, but no more Hi-Tor NEO for her at this point. As with any product, results may marry. Other cats with different conditions may greatly benefit from this product. Thanks!

My kitty likes it
Some of the prescription foods for kidney disease must not taste very good, because cats won't eat them. My kitty likes this food and eats it willingly. My other kitty, who is not currently diagnosed with kidney failure, also likes to eat it part of the time as well as regular food. Years ago I had another aging kitty who needed special food for kidney failure. He was a good eater and never fussy, so he ate it; but it was more expensive. This Hi-Tor Neo food costs less and has the additional benefit of not requiring a prescription. It is somewhat higher in protein, phosphorus and sodium than the prescription foods, but I checked with my vet who said it should be fine to feed my current kitty. I would recommend it to anyone who has a cat/cats with chronic renal failure if their vet approves it. I have been feeding this food for the past few months. I first got it from PetFoodDirect.com, but found I save more with Amazon because PetFoodDirect has a free shipping threshold of $49.00 while Amazon's is only $25.00. (PFD gave 15% off for auto-ship, but that was less than I would have saved with free shipping. Two cases of food cost $48.98 with them, and they would NOT even consider waiving those two cents that prohibited free shipping! Also, the auto-ship turned out not to be such a great idea, because I would have to keep changing the interval as the second kitty sometimes eats it and sometimes doesn't, and even the kitty I feed it exclusively varies in how much she eats day to day. Even taking into account the 15% off and having to adjust the auto-ship all the time, I still save $4.88 per two cases with Amazon.)
