Golden Gate GP-10 Grained Ivoroid Thumb Picks - Large - Dozen

I had played with a flat pick for 30+ years and always seemed to wear down my pointer fingernail due to the nature of holding the flat pick while on the down strum of the strings. So I decided to alter my picking technique and try a thumb pick. I went through several different brands but found that they all cracked at the bend just after a week or two. I looked around online for thumb pick reviews and found Golden Gate by chance. It had many good reviews for being durable and so I decided to try them. I trimmed the point down with a toe nail clipper and filed smooth (I play a Telecaster and the long point hits the pickguard while strumming and chicken pickin'). All I can say is that I am sticking with this brand from now on. It wears on the thumb snug but not tight, is made from very heavy and durable material and so far hasn't even hinted on cracking at the bend. Excellent thumb picks and well worth the money!

I use these for guitar and they are excellent and quite a bit better quality than other thumb picks. They just fit better and stay on. Obviously there are different sizes for all kinds of thumbs, but mine are a bit short and stubby and these fit and stay on great. No need for me to try any more kinds, this is it for me and I find them worth the extra cost as I can see how these will last a long time.

I was using Dunlop and Doyle Dyke speed thumb picks. Neither fit great, but we're okay in my opinion. I know what works for one person doesn't always work for everyone, but for me these are the most comfortable thumb picks I've used. I'm not an expert, but I've been playing for years and usually practice about an hour a day. These picks dont give me blue, numb thumb.

I switched to these from Golden Gate's "extra heavy" thumb picks and am really happy with these. They seem to hold up on the pick surface pretty well. My main issue with them (over the extra heavy variety) is that the tension on the thumb seems to relax with use, usually in just a few hours of playing. So while the contact with the string seems to wear well, the stiffness of the tension on the thumb seems to loosen. I buy these by the box, so swap them out when they get too loose. Too bad they are as expensive as they are. Also too bad they can't make them as stiff as the extra heavy variety. All that said, these are my favorite thumb picks for dobro playing at present.

Great quality simply too tight

I had to replace a lesser model thumb pick which had broken so I was searching for an upgrade. These picks are very comfortable to wear. The actual is a few millimetres longer than I had but I haven't had any issues with precision or accuracy. The smoother surface gives a cleaner, crisper sound to my ears. The picks are a few microns thicker than standard plastic picks so they feel more robust and durable. I am glad that I chose the upgrade. I am certain this 12 pack will last me a while.

I've been through a few thumb pick brands for banjo playing and these stand out far above the rest. As a plus, for the ivory ones, you can see clearly on the bottom where you strike the strings. This is good as a general guide for your technique, but I've used this to guide my filing of the pick to the shape that is most appropriate for me and it's really helped my picking.

Nice Picks. A little thicker then my other great thumb picks from the same company but they certainly serve a purpose and style.

I love these thumb picks. I discovered them by accident when a friend lent me one on a gig. I now use them exclusively. This particular deal arrangement is a good buy as you get 12. By far the best price point I have found. I will say that either I have an abnormally large thumb or that "large" as they describe it them, is way under what "large" should be?? (imho). The largest are still totally too tight for me but ... I have found the secret to enlarge them. You need boiling water (warm water won't do it) and two needle nose pliers. Once the water is boiling (you can take off element), you hold the tip with one plier, and the loop with the other, then gently dip the pick in the water, in about 2 seconds it will go a bit soft and allow you to open up the loop. I need to open it about 1/4". Pull out quickly and place on paper towel to dry. It will go hard almost immediately once out of the water. If you leave it in too long it will literally start to completely unravel. You can always re-submerge to re-adjust. I need to re-size them all to fit for me. There you have it, great picks custom sized to fit.

Great, easy to shape in a little hot water.
