NEIKO 02638A 5-Inch Automatic Center Punch, Adjustable Impact Tool

I picked this up for a project where I needed to drill very precise holes in 16-gauge steel, and it worked much better than the spring-loaded punch I had been using previously. With my old style, you had to pull back and release the mechanism, which often caused the tip to shift slightly before striking. This automatic center punch lets you position the tip exactly where you want it and simply press down until it fires, making it much easier to create an accurate starting point for the drill bit. The punch itself feels solid and comfortable in the hand. It has enough weight to inspire confidence, and the build quality seems like it should hold up well for years with normal use. I also appreciate that there aren't many moving parts exposed, so it seems like a straightforward, durable tool. My only real criticism is the adjustable striking force. The instructions indicate that you can increase or decrease the impact strength, but I honestly couldn't notice much of a difference regardless of the setting. It still worked perfectly for my application, so this wasn't a dealbreaker. Overall, if you're looking for a reliable automatic center punch that makes accurate drilling easier, l'd definitely recommend this one. It did exactly what I needed and is a noticeable improvement over the pull-and-release style punches l've used in the past.

I used this automatic center punch for layout work, and while the spring impact delivers a strong, consistent mark in steel and hardwood, the body is noticeably large and bulky compared to typical shop punches. The adjustment collar gives good control over strike force, and the mechanism resets cleanly without sticking, but the oversized handle makes it harder to position precisely in tight spots. It feels solid and durable with its metal construction, and the strong impact makes it a good value for heavier marking tasks even if the size takes some getting used to.

Work like a charm. I had no idea how ghetto and Jenkee my last Center punch was. It was really just a pain and it was constantly not working and I constantly had to twist it in just a way to where it would actually work and make some sort of an indentation in my material. I had no idea how much I was missing out until I got this. Like it was an eye-opening unbelievable amount. This is a good quality tool, but I mean you probably already knew that because you're looking at it. I can't say something like you should always have a high-quality Center punch in your life because nine times out of 10 a cheap one will be just fine but as I just pointed out, I have been using a real terrible one for a long time and had no idea how much it was interfering with the happiness in my life. This was the one I needed to be a better person! And besides, it's still pretty cheap so there's a lot of value here.

This is a great center punch. Ever try to drill a hole (even in a drill press) and watch your bit walk to the side a bit? Well this is your solution. Actually, I'll admit that I've never used a center punch before purchasing this one, but I wish I had bought one years ago. I bought this for creating divots to drill accurate holes in rectangular aluminum tubing. I also used it on mild steel and tried it on wood. It works great all around! To use this thing, you just put the point where you want the divot and push hard on the orange top. The internal spring compresses, and then it snaps driving the point into whatever you are trying to mark. You can screw/unscrew the end of it to increase/decrease spring tension. For metal, just leave it on the max setting. Dial it down for wood.

Handy little tool

I rather like this punch - it is relatively easy to operate and the plastic ball on the end makes it much easier to hold than the usual versions. While it is not powerful enough to handle every possibility I bet it will work for me 98% of the time.

This is a strong and well built product. It is easy to line up on ones mark and then all that is required is to press down firmly. It leaves a clean well defined hole for your drill bit to follow ensuring greater accuracy. Well worth it. It has made my projects easier.

Man sollte ja annehmen, dass es keine Raketenwissenschaft ist, einen Automatikkörner herzustellen. Leider zeigen die vorher Gekauften das Gegenteil: selbst mit Nacharbeit des Innenlebens und der Spitzengeometrie erzeugten sie nur mit zuviel Kraft ein schlechtes Ergebnis, im Bild der linke Körnerpunkt (Kraftaufwand gefühlt doppelt so hoch wie Neiko). Den Neiko ausgepackt, hingekörnt - perfektes Handling. So muss das und nicht anders!
