Great gate latch
This gate latch works perfectly. Easy to install and heavy duty. Comes with all the screws you need and very good instructions on the package.

Wish I'd gotten it so much sooner!
We have a gate that we had to reverse the way it opened, and had just rigged up the old latch to slide into a hole we drilled in the post. I guess it worked fairly well in the beginning, but over time, you'd have to lift the gate up like 3in to be able to get the post into the hole. And the kids couldn't do it themselves, which was super annoying. I needed something bigger than the standard 4-5in latches in this style, and this one costs way more than I wanted to pay, but I am so happy I got it. Very quick and easy to install, even though the directions were kinda sketchy, and it's very heavy and well made. I installed it into the flattest part of a round post, and it is small enough to sit flush and snug. And even though the wood is very dry and weathered, the screws are amazingly secure. Can't speak to the durability just yet, but I can't imagine anything could degrade besides the paint coating. Which is to be expected eventually.

Heavy duty works well but
Heavy duty and works well but you should add washers to the mounting bolts and a thin washer to where the latch is mounted so the bolt securing it doesn't wear through.

Latch
This is a great latch that is well built! Solid. Flexible. Screws could be a little stronger as I broke one.Best part? Listening to the gate close. Smooth and quiet.

Works great for shifting gaps and has very smooth operation
Our gate is on soil that expands and contracts with the seasons. This latch allows for some movement and still latches great. If you have even more movements then the mounting holes on the latch side allows for easy up-down adjustment. I liked it so much I bought one for my other gate too. I went through several other latches that didn't work for me before ending up with this one. Also great for large gaps and is very sturdy.

Heavy Duty
I bought the 6 and 8 inch versions. The 6 was very flimsy so I returned it. The 8 is very heavy duty. The quality difference between the 6 inch is huge. The latch opens very smoothly. I mounted it on heavy steel gate. The previous latch broke off in the wind. This one should last a long time. I replaced the wood screws with stainless steel M6 bolts which I tapped into the steel posts. The latch is a bit longer than I needed, but better than too short. The pivoting bar is also a nice touch in case the gate starts to sag a little. The black finish is good quality and resists scratching. I've very happy with the build quality and the smooth operation.Update: It's been over a year and the latch has held up well. The black coating has worn off where the bolt contacts the receiver and in a few other friction spots. This gate tends to get slammed frequently so I am pleased by the build quality. I ordered a second latch from a vendor called Cargo.co and was disappointed that they sent me a latch that was clearly used and in poor cosmetic condition. I had better luck with the vendor Stanley National Hardware.

Good product, lousy instructions.
Nice, heavy duty latch. With a pull cable through the post (not included) it can be opened from inside or outside. Instructions on the package are vague and not helpful. ["1. Mark holes. 2. Drill 3/32" Holes. 3. Secure Latch."] Illustration is confusing. Wrench needed is 3/8", not 7/16". No photo on the package, and the photo on Amazon does not show screws in the Guide Plate. Screws should be longer, and stronger; wrench tore the head off one while tightening. Not clear how to position the screws. Be aware the screw hole in the "Bar" is purposefully larger than the screw, which is what allows the bar to adjust/move automatically to meet the strike (the Adjust-O-Matic® feature). A helpful feature on the Strike is the screw holes are oblong and vertical, which allows for easier after-installation fine-tuning the vertical positioning of the Strike; just loosen the screws, move the strike, tighten the screws; no need to drill new holes. This is a very good product flawed by inaccurate and vague installation instructions.

Very high quality.
Make sure size fits for your application. Take into seasonal humidity when using. Some sag in gates need to be taken into account.
