Polski, Krok Po Kroku: Level 1 (A1/A2): Coursebook for Learning Polish as a Foreign Language (Polish Edition)

LOVE this book!
I have purchased multiple Polish books attempting to "relearn" the Polish I understood as a child. This is by far the best book I have used. I do take classes at a Polish Alliance and always hated the books we used. Due to COVID I have been taking an on-line course through another Polish Society and this is the book the instructor uses. This book is the closest to the way I learned a foreign language in high school.PROS:- when the book is purchased, you are able to download an on-line version of the book- the on-line version is exactly what is in the book- the on-line version has audio. Each dialoag, etc. can be listened to. On the side of each dialog is a list of "new" vocabulary and phrases which give you the meaning and audio pronunciation. You can listen as many times as you need to.- the on-line version allows you to do the exercises and you are able to check your answers. If you come across something you just cannot figure out, you hit "show" and it will give you the correct answer.- the dialogs are spoken "slowly" to enable one to hear the pronunciation- the on-line version has a dictionary that conjugates all verbs, adjectives, adverbs in all cases as well as list masculine/feminine forms of nouns- you are able to purchase additional help but I would just buy the workbook that goes with this "textbook". It reinforces the work and is actually a bit more difficult than the exercises from the textbook.- should you want lessons with an an actual Polish tutor (in Poland), there is a list of them, along with their bios. I have not done it, but I do know someone that has and it has been a great benefit.Cons:- the book is ALL polish. If you are not using in a class, you MUST be prepared to look up words and do additional research for anything you might not understand. Unfortunately, there is pain in learning a new language. Do not think this book will make you fluent without putting in the time.

Good pace; LOTS of interactive content
Qualifications: I studied linguistics at university and have studied ~10 languages (most for at least a couple years; some up to fluency), so I'm familiar with the process of language learning. This is a pretty solid textbook, but where it really stands out — especially if you're self-studying and don't have a teacher or someone to model pronunciation for you — is all the online content. Each book comes with a code to access their website, where there are audio dialogs and exercises; you can click on basically any word and a definition pops up; and all the coursebook and workbook exercises are available interactively, so the website will tell you if your answers are correct. (This is especially helpful when I _think_ I've spelled something correctly, but the site tells me I'm wrong, and after examining it several times I realize I missed a diacritic, or swapped a "ć" for a "cz".)All the fancy interactive features do mean the site sometimes runs slow, but overall I find it a really useful companion to the book. The book itself goes at a good pace, mixing in words you don't know yet (e.g. in a dialogue at the beginning of a new chapter) often enough to help you get used to understanding the general gist of a conversation even if you don't understand every single word (an inescapable fact of trying to use any new language in the wild!), but not so often that you get frustrated. There's a good mix of vocabulary, grammar, and some cultural elements. I would recommend this book.

Incredible! e-course book is important, though
I’m fluent in Polish and my husband is learning the language. He started with Babbel and took a few virtual private lessons. I ordered him this book which he threw in the trash after ten minutes of trying to use it. Needless to say, he needed a little bit of patience and guidance. I guided him through one lesson using the e-course book that comes with the physical book. Yes, it’s immersive. There’s not many translations. But he LOVES it now, and spends at least an hour every night going through the course. This book isn’t really suitable for a beginner on its own, unless you’re guided by a teacher, but it’s absolutely fabulous with the e-course book once you get the hang of it. There’s a learning curve, but once you understand the logic, it’s great. Reminds me of when I took French in high school.

Would recommend . . .
Well done! Learning a lot over the past four weeks! Pages are just difficult to write on when doing the written exercises because they are coated. Sometimes, though, you definitely need someone to explain a few of the concepts in your own language.

Immersive learning tool
Love this book and I honestly don’t get the negative reviews on this but everyone learns differently I guess! If you are looking for an immersive learning experience (as immersive as you can get with a book) this is a great tool! Would highly recommend.

Five Stars
This Polish textbook is better than “Hurrah po polsku”. It has useful dialogues and lots of exercises.

I don't think this would be good for absolute beginners
I don't think this would be good for absolute beginners. I have gone through the Pimsleur Polish CD and this seems like a good next step for learning.

Book is brand new with codes for the online audio tapes. Hasn't got much use yet as only arrived 2 days ago, but so far so good. I'm learning polish because my boyfriend is polish so I have some extra help and have been learnin for a while already. I will update as I get further through the book but for now I'm very happy with it
