If it ain't broke...modify it!
Yes the handle material is slippery. After applying some grip tape, this knife is perfect. You're getting absolute super steel in an amazing slim, light, incredibly adaptive blade, and it's on sale because no one can find some grip tape? For about 2 bucks of grip tape you end up with what's almost perfect for me. Perfect really. Lightweight and low profile so I actually carry it. Comparatively cheap so I actually use it. Once secured with grip tape incredibly useful from kitchen to ranch work. Yes I'm picky about my tomato slices. Yes I've killed pigs with my large Maxpidition. Yes this is now in my daily rotation as one of my favorites. I have a machete in the barn for chopping around the ranch. I have survival knifes around and in the cars for Armageddon. But this is now strapped to my hip.

Slim handle design.
Good quality and good design. Only problem is if you have a big hand gripping the knife is difficult.

Strong & Nimble
I own both the Province and the Sustain. The Province is a beast of a knife while the Sustain is a substantial while a considerably more nimble tool. I would argue neither of these are tactical/combat/fighting knives. For me, it's mainly because neither have what I want to see in a guard and pommel. That said, and shifting specifically to the Sustain, this knife is great for me. 20CV blade steel is all-around excellent. The grind and edge are great for everyday utility. The G-10 handles are polished and appropriate handling is necessitated. This all said, I would say this has more of an all-around general purpose application in the light to medium category. Would be great in a kitchen as a "utility" knife. I would not classify nor use this as a heavy duty knife that you might see with camping and definitely not with tactical/combat applications. This gets 5 stars overall from me and it's service within general/utility tasks.

Great steel, weak presentation.
Best knife steel ever, takes a razor sharp edge, incredibly edge holding, tough. Great for cutting slicing piercing. Well designed blade, great edge geometry. The good stops there. The grip is G10, I love G10 for grips, tough, waterproof, just enough texture, but these have been polished so smooth that you can't get a good purchase and they are flat, not at all ergonomic. No finger guard! Smooth grips and no finger guard on a knife designed to stab. I'd like to keep ALL of my fingers, Thank you.The sheath: crappy leather that you would expect on a $5 fillet knife, not on a knife that retails for $300.Great knife for a Steel Snob who doesn't intend to use it every day. If you, like me, expect to use it every day you will need to replace the handle scales and the sheath. I expect more from Spyderco, I expect more for $300

Did I just purchased a $300 steak knife?
This knife looks like it should belong next to a bread knife in a kitchen knife setNot balanced very well but my biggest criticism of this knife Hass to be the handle. Smooth wood and could easily slip out of your hand. Not the kind of blade I wouldwant to use in a emergency situation also ahefty price tag is the icing on the cake. Normally I am very happy with Spyderco products. But this fixed blade line they present here like I said in the beginning ofthe review looks like a Kitchen knife setAs you can see by These photos a comparison to a steak knife out of my kitchen knife set

GREAT GREAT FIELD KNIFE!!
The Spyderco Sustain is a fine knife folks...Very sharp and sharpenable, sturdy as hell and full tang, and I should say it's also a very good looking knife. The blade alone is over 6 inches and the handle is...plenty grippy enough. I dont know if they could build this knife with a grip like skateboard grip tape but that would just add to its awsomeness. Also, i would have loved the blade to be black but no biggy....HEY! hunting, catch preping, defense, bush foraging, whatever youre doing this is a super formidable field knife. All the way up!
