Phat Funky Sound
I am a Remo guy for sure but I find myself coming back to this head a lot recently. I use a variety of kick drums, mainly Gretsch & Ayotte. I had been using Power Stroke 3's because of their attack. What I want more than that is a warm, huge funky tone with good feel. The EMAD keeps doing that. I like them so much I have switched over all my kicks to them. On a 20" X 16" or 18" the drum sounds much bigger than it is. On stage it is wonderful. At home practicing it gives me back the sound I want which is rounder and deeper than the PS 3. These heads are durable as well so you won't be compromising durability. Hope this helps you guys & gals...

Superb Sound and Versatility: Evans EMAD 2 Bass Drum Head Review
The Evans EMAD 2 Bass Drum Head is superb. It's easy to tune, highly durable, and versatile, especially for Spanish Christian music. It delivers a very good punchy sound with excellent tone and feel. Additionally, it offers great value for money, making it a smart investment for any drummer.

Thumper
I like this head a lot. I completely agree with the previous reviews that say that it doesn't necessarily give the chest-resounding whump that you get from a down-filled pillow in the drum cavity, but I love that the rings allow for options in terms of the degree of muffling. I had a down sleeping bag liner stuffed in my bass drum before, and I ended up keeping it in there after I put this head on. The difference is now it's much less important where the blanket/liner comes in contact with the beater head. In other words, before, the liner served two functions: to muffle the resonance of the beater head; and to add depth to the sound (the deep thump). Now this head serves the former function of muffling, and the liner still delivers the deep thump. Also, just to clarify, since the pictures don't show this detail, there is a physical ring affixed to the surface of the head. This ring has a lip that comes out from the head about 1/4", which is the space that the foam rings slide into. It's a very easy and quick thing to switch out, and can easily be done between songs if you want different sounds for different songs. I definitely recommend this head. My band mates could notice the difference when I put it on, and so could I.

Bass beat
I thought I already wrote a review for this product. Anyway, like I said, I have a 22 inch pro master bass drum, and this head brings down the DB level so I can play in my studio. Sincerely, your friend, the drummer dude!

Mother of God. B^O
My son busted through his first bass drum head (Aquarian), I am so proud. His drum instructor, which just so happens to be Garin Rosen of Arsonist Get All the Girls recommend this head. My god is it punchy yet deep. You can really get a good range from a soft boom to a deep pop without any ring. The previous head was good, but it really didn't produce a noticablly different sound between soft and hard hits. "The foam ring on the outside is something new to me, I was a little confused at first, but I really like the concept. This head come with one clear kick patch to help extend its life. I purchased an additional set of Evans woven kick pads for the double pedal while leaving the clear one on. I figure it couldn't hurt since my son's drum instructor also recommended using gaffers tape over these patches as well to extend its life even further.

Finally, the kick sound I was looking for
I play on a church band, playing mostly Hillsong/Passion music. I've been toying around with different heads and dampening methods for my kit, but the kick drum by far has been the most difficult to tinker with. With traditional heads, I tried several schemes with commercial dampening gear and also by taping things (a small towel, foam, even diapers) to the inside of my kick batter head -- which sort of did the trick, but the sound was still lacking. If I started pounding on the kick, it sounded too "rubbery" or "boing-y", which was a shame given the decent shells I have. Putting a pillow inside and mic-ing the drum was an option I did not like--the pillow choked the sound too much and the kick did not sound lively. Sure you can add all the enhancement you want with a mic, but sitting behind the drums the kick seemed underpowered compared to the rest of the kit. The sound tech may like the pillow/mic option, but hey, it's gotta sound good to the guy playing the drums. Then I tried the EMAD2 -- boy, I should have done it years ago. My kick now has the sound I've been trying to make. It's got a nicely defined, punchy "thud" to it with a short, controlled sustain while not losing the volume you'd expect from a 22-inch barrel. All this in a neat package that requires no additional dampening. It's an added bonus to be able to see the uncluttered insides of the kick drum. The kit sounds much more balanced now, and it's a joy to hear the kick again and again. The bass player on the band used to complain that my kick sounded too mushy and was difficult to hear over the mix, but he noticed the improvements right away. If you can, go give it a try at a local music store -- I'm pretty sure a decent store has a kit or two on display with this head on it (the choice of heads & tuning make a far greater difference in the overall sound than the material of the shells). You can compare it with other bass drums as well...

Perfect
I bought this head as a used item (listed as “very good condition”). The product had no signs of use and came in its original packaging. I’m extremely satisfied.
