Makes a great cup of coffee and adds a new profile for flavor
This unit changed the way I make coffee and sets a new expectation of what you can get out of a morning cup of joe. I had used a favorite bean for a long time on normal drip coffee but this completely changed the taste profile which I found really interesting. There are deeper flavors and bolder profiles I extract when using the Brim. I still use a press sometimes and other coffee makers but this is my go to in the morning or when people come and visit. It makes enough coffee for a good group but it also makes it fast enough that you can make multiple batches quickly. I do like the testing capability I tried to get a gold standard coffee. I find that the gold is pretty strong based on the optimum settings/levels provided by the Brim instructions.Cleaning out the glass carafe is probably not difficult for people with small hands but mine don't fit through the next and tend to use a scrub arm on occasion to get out the build up coffee stain to make it look nice.I did find that the rubber thermal sleeve on the carafe does put of a little odor when heated up with the coffee and base heating element. I've tried different things but still get a slight odor. If I remove the sleeve I don't get the smell. I worked with a great technical group and they offered to do all kinds of things to support me and my question so they were very responsive but I've decided to just not use the sleeve to resolve the odor. Not a deal breaker but maybe a robe based or some other material might not release the same smell.I've continued to use the paper filters and haven't tried the supplied stainless funnel. It looks well made though and I'm sure provides great performance. I do feel like the paper likely keeps the carafe cleaner but may try that out sometime.I think you will find this is a great addition to anyone who likes coffee. The unit is easy to use and quick to get a fresh pour over cup.

Simple Process; great coffee
I very seldom write reviews, but in this case I wanted to share how simple and low key this coffee maker is -- a real bonus in ease-of-use for pour-over fans.To start: The maker comes with a metal reusable cone filter, but I use brown paper cone filters instead, because I really dislike the feel of coffee grounds on my hands, and the mess that they can make when trying to clean reusable filters or press machines. So in the past few years I've been doing pour-over coffee, one cup at a time, which makes great coffee, but is time consuming, and it's hard to deal with not having a coffee maker that can make larger amounts when friends come over.Enter the Brim. It tastes like pour over coffee, strong and smooth, but without having to stand there and pour over multiple times. Instead you just fill the water container and put your grounds in your filter (or use the metal one provided) and push start. 5 minutes later it beeps and you come back and get your nicely brewed coffee. In terms of clean up, I actually walk over to the compost bin and place filter with used grounds inside and then pour my coffee. Then all I need to do is rinse the pot and the filter holder. Done.If you are someone who is used to more traditional style coffee makers with features like pre-setting brew times or keeping coffee warm, then this coffee maker might not be what you want. It's not really designed for that style of coffee drinking. But if you are a pour-over coffee fan who just finds the process of hand-pouring a little too complicated and time consuming, this brewer will make a very nice cup of coffee for one person with minimal clean up. And it will also make a nice pot of coffee for 4-5 people (which is really where the hand pour-over process become difficult). I love it.I have been using for a month, almost daily, and have had not difficulties with the equipment -- coffee is hot and brew is smooth.

some issues but, i still love it overall
10/19 - well broke my carafe and given another reviewer was denied a replacement, i just hunted down an even better carafe that isn’t so weak, matches brim colors and looks cute too with a handle. look for on E: Vintage PYREX Glass Coffee Pot CARAFE Black Bee Pattern .. you can use metal filter holder with it or a #3 glass filter holder like one shown in my pic (a #2 will probably look better - update: #2 does look and fits better, carafe goes under brim spout area easier and you can still use #4 filters!!). You will NOT be able to use burner anymore however, for you need to fill inside burner area so carafe doesn’t wobble cause it is slightly too wide to fit into burner. i just made a thick semi circle piece with foil paper since it is heatproof and due to its color it looks like part of the brim maker and works perfectly at keeping carafe leveled.. i love this carafe even better than original brim one, feels less fragile and older pyrex glass is pretty strong.8/7 - don’t like metal filter, it leaves ground residue in coffee and i also ended up not liking the plastic filter basket this came with, smells weird after it gets hot and keeping the inside bottom clean was impossible due to ridges/etc edges inside the basket. I hunted down a ‘glass’ filter basket to use with this and although i though my coffee already tasted good, it actually tastes cleaner (if that makes any sense) with this glass filter basket so i guess the plastic filter basket that came with this brim was adding a taste to my coffee (i do have overly sensitive tastebuds and it could also be because you can’t get the bottom inside totally clean even with a small pipe brush so there’s old coffee stains that maybe is making coffee bitter or something). Anyhow highly recommend upgrading filter basket to a “ Hario V60 Glass Coffee Dripper, Size 03 “, it fits well in this carafe and doesn’t get hot on top edge so you won’t get burned taking it out after brewing. they make special filters for this glass dripper aka my new filter basket but, they stink from what i gather so i still use the malitta cone filters and just fold them on side a little more.(for size comparison; in my pic there is 2 coffee bean oxo containers / a lido 3 grinder and a 20oz mug.)-this maker is nice size to me, not huge and not small, perfect for putting in corner area like i have it.-overall i really like this Brim pour-over maker, it is perfect to me even with its faults that normally would bother me but, my goodness does my coffee taste so good these days, didn’t think anything could make better coffee than my beloved brunn stx from 2009 but, this brim does..-i had one of the best online customer service experiences ever with them!!now for its faults/etc:-water tank stays fogged up forever it seems for it was still fogged up about 10-11hrs since last use when i woke up next day. (keeping lid off or slightly ajar for about an hour after brewing usually stops it)-no option to NOT use the warmer plate which i really hate because you can not put empty glass carafe on it when it is still hot so since i make 4 cps at a time, i have to put empty carafe on a hot pad instead of back on coffee maker!-warmer plate stinks when warm/hot!! whatever the black finish is on it puts out a light chemical burning plastic like smell around maker, smell is worse when you smell near warmer itself. UPDATE: 8/7, smell is almost unnoticeable now.-under maker/shower head area is plastic so it smells like plastic when hot..-not all the spouts on shower-head work well, some seem useless with just drips here and there since the center ones do all the work 90% of time.-silicone sleeve is not completely heat proof, those of us with sensitive fingertips aka without rough hands, may still feel the heat. for me it doesn’t burn per se but, it does turn my fingertips reddish after handling carafe right after brewing.-silicone sleeve also outputs a mild burning like rubber odor when it gets hot during brewing, so it leaves its scent on your hand. UPDATE: this too has subsided some.-Am definitely okay with it but, it does not brew at “197.6°F to 204.8°F” range, after first day at 200-202 range, it has brewed at 192-198 max every time (i checked 5 time each day for first 3 days and randomly since).-wide & long sticker label they put on front of maker comes off easy enough but, whatever adhesive that sticker uses eats into & brightens up the nickel finish so you get to look at an invisible shiny label area amongst the duller brush nickel finish of your maker!-last but, not least i had issues with my carafe, i did not like the air bubbles around bottom area of it with more seeming to be showing up. maybe i am wrong but, i swear i recall you shouldn’t use glass with air bubbles/imperfections in it with fluctuating temps/high heat. i tried to look it up again but, couldn’t really find anything about it but, i still felt uncomfortable with it so i contacted company for a carafe exchange AND i don’t know who other reviewer contacted that didn’t get a response but, i contacted Brim at email provided on their website at 11:37 pm and by 10:42am the next day, i had a case number and a new carafe on its way and that is with them waiting for me to send them proof of purchase receipt pic, maker label pic and my addy (they said up to 4wks but, i received it from Canada on 6th day) and that is one of the very few fastest & best customer service ever to me..you would think with all the faults, one would of just return maker and chose something else but, until you actually taste your first mug of coffee made out of this thing, you can’t see why one would choose NOT do so everrr. i have no time or rather am too grumpy and have no patiences for hand pour-overing my coffee in AM and well this thing does it for me so it is never going anywhere until it dies even if i am not technically fond of some of the issues with how it is made and that i won’t be able to replace carafe after two year warranty runs out since they do not offer any for sale nor any replacement parts like filter things.(for future reference if carafe is needed: the carafe size is: 9.5” H - 5” wide - 3” inside neck opening)
