Patience required
First I used a solution of sodium hypochlorite (the ingredient in bleach but I used pool shock) mixed with TSP in water. Sprayed it on the shingles and let sit for 30 minutes. Then hose off. This killed the existing lichen that was growing and removed some of the black streaks. The lichen turned white immediately after spraying but took a while to come off.I then waited about a month before installing the zinc strips. I have a ranch house and installed more than the recommended width of the strip, For sections of the roof with 12 ft runs I installed 3", for the 18 ft runs I installed 6". That was 4 months ago and I'm finally starting to see some results. First, no new black streaks or lichen has appeared, and the black streaks that remained are finally starting to fade. Some things to consider before using zinc strips on your roof:1. If you have a high roof or a steep pitch, installation will be dangerous. You should use a safety harness if your doing it yourself. Or get a professional to install it.2. If you use a spray solution will damage plants on the ground if it gets on them.3. The spray solution is hard on shingles. I had noticeable shedding of the single granules. I would not do this spray more than once.4. I re-shingled my roof 12 years ago (30 yr shingles) and used the algae resistant shingles, that only helped for about 4 years before we started to notice the black streaks.5. If I had a new roof, I would install these zinc strips immediately and not wait for the black streaks to appear.6. I tried the non-bleach products like wet-it-forget-it. I don't think they did anything. Conclusion: These zinc strips appear to be working, but it certainly isn't a quick fix. It may take another 6 months before I can draw a final conclusion.

"Zinc great" " Box not great"
This is what I wanted. I installed 75 feet with 1 1/2" metal roofing screws. Used a caulking gun and put a dab of tar under the zinc strip and screw18" staggered top and bottom 1" from the edges. Water needs to flow through and wet the bottom. You don't want to trap the water. the strip is easy to cut, using serrated scissors or aviation snips. I used a large spring clamp and two bricks to keep the roll from unwinding and rolling off the roof. The shipment came poorly packaged and torn with plastic wrap hanging out. Two rolls of zinc, feels like 4 to 5 pounds a piece plus a bag of screws.Only thing holding everything in place was the tape on the box. Needs to be double boxed.

Kills moss
I put this up after the roof was completed because in 3 years I have a lot of moss growing on the northern side of the roof. The only way to retrofit this so it will not leak is to remove the ridge cap shingles, nail this up, and either replace or reuse the ridge cap shingles so all nail heads that hold down the Zinc are covered. It works, but depending on circumstances, it may be difficult to do right so it will not leak and rubber backed nails, if left exposed, will leak eventually.

Good material - ideal for the task
This roll of zinc strip arrived, well packaged and although it took a while for the weather to improve sufficiently so I could safely fit it, the task was not as difficult as I was expecting.I was concerned that the strip would lift in windy conditions and even become dislodged but having fitted it, I am more confident that it will stay in place - but I ran a bead of silicone sealant along the leading edge, just in case and now I am quite confident it should do the job intended for many years to come. The seller was very helpful in organising the dispatch to the UK as this material is difficult (and very expensive) to come by and communications were very quick and effective. Overall a great product and experience.

Looks like it will do the job
Installed on my roof to prevent moss. A little thin but not too thin. Need to nail it down or it will be lifted by the wind. Used Zinc coated nails and neoprene washers to prevent leaks

Works Very Well, Easy to Install
I didn't want mold and mildew on the north side of my roof. I had a roofer put this under the second row of shingles with most of it exposed. No more mold and mildew on the roof. My neighbor did the same.
