My favorite little salt jar
The media could not be loaded. I absolutely love the wood and use the little jar to store salt. I've used it for 9 months and it's changed the way i cook. I'm no longer pouring salt into my palm. I just open the jar, and take a pinch of salt to season whatever I'm cooking. I think the design is rustic and I'm very pleased with how easy it is to use. Highly recommend. The lid used to fit a little tighter. I'm sure I can use a screwdriver to tighten it. This is not a deal breaker and is just normal wear and tear.

A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY KITCHEN!
Since I've always enjoyed cooking and trying to get better, I finally realized that a salt cellar was needed in my arsenal of kitchen tools. Aside from pouring salt into my hand just to get a pinch or two for whatever I was seasoning and throwing out the rest, which seemed wasteful and dumb, it wasn't efficient. So, I grabbed this salt cellar and it's really great. Simple, works well and does what it needs to do silently, cleanly and effortlessly. The wood seemed a bit TOO dry when I unboxed it so, I gave a liberal dose of mineral oil (on the outside ONLY!) and it drank it like a sponge, Works like a charm and looks good on my counter. Definitely recommend!

American made, beautiful workmanship
The title of the review sums it up. This is always on my counter, to grab a pinch of salt or to dip a spoon into. It would be nice if they offered a wooden spoon to go with it (I use a small wooden spoon left over from something else).

Ring-bearer box and gourmet salt
I bought the salt box as a ring-bearer's box and as a nice box to hold some gourmet salt that we were gifted. It's a beautiful box - the bottom appears to be made from a single piece of wood, instead of two pieces (a hollow cylinder and disk). It took some work to get the adhesive sticker off. I used some mineral oil that I use to condition my butcher's block, and it brought out the beautiful wood tones in the box.The lid is just a little bit loose, and it's not an airtight seal. I live in an arid climate now, but if I were still living in high humidity, I believe the salt would clump up quickly.Overall, it's beautiful and satisfies the purposes I had for it, but I would not say I was blown away

Great Little Salt Cellar
Fortunately, we had bought this same product from somewhere else before buying several more from Amazon (great price @ Amazon!). This prepared us for the negative feedback that it received from other reviewers, and didn't deter us from purchasing more of them.Yes, the salt cellar has a visible screw on the lid that holds it to the base. This is actually a nice feature since it allows the lid to pivot out of the way without having to remove it. The picture doesn't show a screw. It would be nice to update it so that buyers are accurately informed of what they are purchasing. The lid has sharper edges, similar to the base; and the small brass screw is countersunk so that it is flush with the lid. We don't mind the screw. Also, the cellars DO have an odor to them; but it smells like mineral oil, probably used to season the wood ... not a bad thing. They function well, look nice, and you can't beat the price ... especially if you want several of them!

I love this thing!
I saw the TV chef Simon was always using this on his shows and thought it would be a convenient way to salt my foods when I cook and it is! I keep it right next to the stove and salt is always in reach. Good looking too.

The key is in the details - better than similar salt cellars
This is a high quality, attractive, sturdy salt cellar. What really separates it from similar products, though, is a lack of an outward-facing magnet. The lid on this cellar stays in place, but unlike other cellars it is not held in place by a magnet that's exposed and outward facing. Other cellars magnets end up with tiny amounts of salt getting stuck and ground into them, eventually causing terrible squeaking sounds when opened and shut, similar to nails on a chalkboard. That's not the case with this cellar. Absolutely worth it.

Not as pictured
Man, I wish I read all these other reviews before I bought this item! I didn't think I needed to, because all I expected was the box in the picture that I could keep my salt in. Well, the box you get is NOT the box in the picture. There is a visible screw, plus the edges of the top are not rounded, as I now see by many other reviewers. Plus, on further review, I see there is the exact same item description which would ship from another company but for more money;http://www.amazon.com/Ironwood-Gourmet-Acacia-Wood-Cellar/dp/B000GBKB5C/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_topI really dislike Amazon's lack of care and attention to detail. (How many times was this "not as pictured" review posted, and the listing remains unchanged...?) This is not only reflected in the false representation of the item, but the redundancy of the product listed twice PLUS the price discrepancy between the two. Amazon is becoming a zoo. I'd rather buy locally and pay a little more in appreciation for people caring about the quality of their work. I only bought this to take advantage of the "deal" on free shipping when I needed to buy some water filters that are not available to me locally. I appreciated Amazon in certain respects, but this is disappointing.
