Smells Great, Works Great. Eliminates Frizz & Defines Curls While Moisturizing. Perfect for Biracial Babies!
This stuff has been absolutely amazing! My one year old daughter is biracial (black & white) and has a combination of tight curls and waves with some frizz. The already very curly portion doesnt need much done, but the wavy portion (which happens to be on top) will be partially curled with some straight pieces and frizzes easily. I have tried various different products (Carol's Daughter, SheaMoisture, Mixed Chicks, Curly Q's) and this is by far one of my favorites.First of all, it smells amazing! Some people have said it smells too strong, but I didn't think so. It reminds me of pina colada. It's lightweight, not greasy at all, and moisturizing. I don't have to apply a lot in the curlier portions of her hair, however, I do have to pretty much saturate the wavy portion. Although it takes quitea bit of product in some places, it's never oily or greasy and hasn't caused any visible buildup. Her waves and curls become defined and frizz is eliminated. Her hair is soft, shiny, and moisturized afterwards. I even put it in my hair sometimes when I plan on curling it.When I style her hair, I brush it with a special detangling brush and then apply the product and style with my fingers. I do not brush or comb after this as it will create frizz and cause the curls to lose definition. When I first apply the product (on dry hair) it may appear wet at first but by about 20 minutes later her hair has absorbed the product and looks amazing.

Too coconutty
I bought this for my 18 m/o son's hair as he had finished up his starter set of "It's a Curl" products. Thought he was ready to graduate to the bigger kids hair products! It's not bad, but a little too fragrant, in my opinion. It smells like coconuts. Not bad, but he's still a toddler and the scent is too strong. It did give his nice, soft, defined curls though.

Don't mix with gel, don't use heat. Awesome product!
The detangler works amazingly well and allows you to comb thru those really tight curls with out the tears and sore necks. It works best if you spray it on right after washing and you just brush or comb it thru and let the hair dry naturally. If you use heat it will fry the hair. The curl defining lotion does make the curls more uniform and takes the volume of the hair down a notch for a more refined and fancy look but it also will build up and need to be washed out. My kids do use it for special events or if they want to wear their hair down and rock curls. All my children have extremely curly hair so I've been buying these two products for years. I am biracial and so are my children so I know how to take care of their hair. That being said I see a lot of people trying to mix this product with gel and getting terrible results. Not only is gel just bad for hair but especially bad for mixed hair in general. If you use gel in mixed children's hair it will dry out and break off. Even worse if you use it in combo with these products just don't. So many people complaining about frizzy hair, in my house we call that black girl magic and we don't use these products to tame it but to make it easier for my kids to manage their own hair in a healthy way with a healthy attitude. I've attached pics of with and without the product.

This stuff is amazing! My sons hair gets so dry and I've tried many leave in conditioners and hair lotions that made his head itch, or his hair stiff and crusty, and this lotion doesn't do that at all. His hair is soft and curly and the lotion smells so good! I will be using these products from now on. Definitely recommend.

Didn't work for us
I really wanted to love this lotion. It has safe ingredients, it claims to have been designed specifically for mixed hair, it has good reviews, and it's much cheaper than other brands. However... It just doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm on a constant path of exploration and education, learning to care for my biracial kids' hair, and periodically trying out new products. This line has been the least effective so far, with disastrous results. The frizz is unbelievable! My daughter is 3 and her hair is 3b, and my son is 1 and his hair is 3c. I used a combination of the CurlyKids lotion and the CurlyKids gel after washing their hair, as directed, then used a bit more to define their curls the next morning. By the end of day 1 their hair was all frizzed up and matted, both of them. I gave it a few more weeks, tweaking the amounts I'm using, just to see if maybe I'm doing it wrong, but the thing is, I've done it "right" with other products, so it's not that my technique sucks. I just couldn't get this line to work. After I gave up on CurlyKids, I went back to Shea Moisture and tried a couple more of their products. One turned out really bad (the souffle), but another (the styling milk) actually worked wonderfully! Beautiful defined curls that last almost all week, with minor tweaking in the morning. So my conclusion is that CurlyKids is just not for us.

best products for biracial toddler hair!
My 1 year old daughter is half Hispanic half African American. She has the thickest hair I have ever seen on a child! I have searched high and low for hair care products that were effective yet gentle enough for her hair. I found it with this line. I used mixed chick's kids line before this and was not impressed! I have actually purchased the entire line of curlykids, and I use it all religiously. I use the shampoo once or twice a week. I co-wash other nights with the curly kids detangling conditioner. On the nights I shampoo, I use the deep conditioner, leave it in for about 5 min, then rince. I always finish with the the leave in cream conditioner. If she wears her hair down, I will use the curl defining lotion and frizz control paste. If she is wearing hear hair up I use the gel. The change in her hair after the first use was unbelievable! I recommend these products to anyone with biracial children and children with very thick curly hair!
