My partner recently took a class in book making and has started to do more with the craft. I saw this binding cradle and thought it would be a great addition to her tools. The cradle is very well made out of some beautiful beech wood and the kit comes with everything you need to switch up leaflets when binding a book. This is one of those simple yet effective tools that makes a cumbersome process so much easier and more precise. Just stack the folded pages into the jig, place the top block on and pierce the holes right in the crease, quickly, cleanly and evenly. I did notice that once you start piercing the holes it's best to pay close attention until you are done to insure you don't miss a hole. The whole process only takes a minute, but without any fumbling trying to keep the pages aligned or taking a chance of accidentally stabbing yourself. I know that this is a tool she is going to be very please to have in her studio.

This book binding cradle works great! It's been a few years since my last book-binding adventure, but I recall using a yarn needle and making divots in my kitchen table. Not great. With this handy little device, I can easily punch through at least 5 sheets of paper (my current project) to start the signatures. This cradle and awl make that process so much easier that there's no comparison.The beechwood is beautiful - I may add a dab of mineral oil eventually on the surfaces that won't have contact with paper - and the holes are machined very precisely with a channel on the bottom so the awl doesn't dull. The wood is smooth, though the ends could probably use some work with a fine-grit sandpaper, and it has silicone feet to prevent slippage during use.Overall, this is a great quality tool for those interested in book binding.
