I have been less than impressed by ready-mix shellac. Too thick, so I had to cut it with alcohol...but how much? And even if I got the consistency right, the chemical additives they put in there to give it longer shelf-life make it slower to dry, and leave a less-than-perfect finish. Also, I was limited to just the colors they produced.I decided to start making my own "small-batch" shellac, just 4 oz or 8 oz at a time. I bought shellac flakes of different colors, and alcohol, and was happy with my ability to tailor the exact "cut" (thickness) and color, and the finishes I was getting were better than from store-bought shellac. The only fly in the ointment was the amount of time it took to dissolve the flakes completely. A full day, sometimes two.Enter this little gizmo. I measure into a Mason jar the desired amount of high-test alcohol - either ethanol (i.e., 190-proof Everclear - EXPENSIVE) or isopropyl (99% rubbing acohol - CHEAP), add the correct amount and color(s) of shellac flakes, drop in the magnetic "pill" stirrer, put the jar on this unit, and slowly bring the speed up to where I want it. Then I leave it alone for 90 minuts. Presto, perfect shellac.If I want to speed it up even more, I use a cheap little coffee grinder to grind the flakes to powder. The shellac is crystal clear in about 20 minutes.This tiny machine doesn't make BETTER shellac, it just makes it FASTER.

I absolutely LOVE this!! I use this to mix up my own room sprays, body sprays and car diffusers!! This makes life much easier and I'm sure they are mixed alot better than I could do by shaking or hand stirring!!

Works great for the home mycologists or mad scientist.😅👍

Magnetic stirrer works great specially when mixing Different chemicals. My only complaint is the short power cable

I'm just learning how to make love cultures for micology research. This spin plate does what I needed to make liquid cultures. It isn't overly complicated and it comes with everything you need to use it.
