Having an extended-life battery centrally mounted instead of hanging off the back of the camera when it's mounted on a gimbal takes a major load off the motors keeping everything balanced and thus extends the gimbal's battery life.This little block of metal allows you to attach moderate-capacity V-mount batteries to the recessed cold shoe mount on the bottom of DJI RS 2, RSC 2, RS 3, and RS 3 Pro gimbal cradles. The cold shoe has two sprung ball-bearings in that give a positive feel to pushing the piece into place, and there's a locking mechanism that ensures it can't just slide off. There are also two small rubber pads that seem to just serve to provide a bit of friction and grip to the underside of the cradle. A small button releases the lock and allows the block to slide back out of the slot. My particular one required more force than I expected, and returned lazily, but that doesn't affect its ability to hold in place.On the other side of the block is the V-mount slot. This has a much larger and more freely-moving button for activating the release mechanism. Included with the block is a small V-mount adaptor for bolting (with the included 1/4-20 bolt) to the underside of NP-F battery plates from Neewer, SmallRig or Tilta. This allows you to use cheaper Sony-style batteries with your camera while it's on the gimbal and while the battery plate isn't included, having the adaptor increases the versatility.It's important to note that this block has no electronics in, so if your V-mount battery is usually held on a battery plate that handles the D-Tap/USB/power connections for you, it won't work out of the box with just this block. The NP-F plates mentioned all have power output connectors, so work fine.As an aside, I wondered whether I could use the cold-shoe plate in other places on my camera rig, but it seems the ball bearings introduce too much additional thickness, and it wouldn't slide in. It's probably best just doing what it's designed to do.

PROS-useful solution for adding a v-mount battery to a suitable gimbal (or an NP-F battery, with an adaptor, which I happily have already)-small, light, doesn’t add too much weight in and of itself (the v-mount battery I have though is quite large, I need to source a smaller one)-the inclusion of a v-lock plate is very helpful, I can mount almost anything under my camera now (as long as I can balance my gimbal after I add whatever it is).-good locking system, for both the plate mounting to the gimbal, and a battery mounting to the plate.-very good value (listed at £26.99 plus a 20% off voucher at the time of this review)CONS-the two quick-release “buttons” don’t move as smoothly as, say, similar buttons on other pieces of kit I have (and the springs seem pretty light). I hope that they last a long time, as I think this is a pretty useful piece of kit.-my gimbal struggles a bit with a larger v-mount battery underneath (it’s right on the edge of being able to be balanced). I’m going to source a lighter one, maybe 50W or so.NOTES-I usually mount a wireless transmitter into the mounting point that this v-mount battery plate uses. This mounting plate came very well packed in the usual high quality Neewer packaging and is obviously of a high build quality.This mounting plate is advertised as a V-Mount battery plate suitable for the DJI Ronin gimbal series, but due to the versatile construction can be used to mount many other accessories to camera cages and other photographic equipment.The V mount plate features a standard V lock interface designed for v mount batteries but the included extra V lock plate with it's standard 1/4" threads means that this plate can be attached to almost anything.The unit has two independant lock release pins , one for the v lock plate and another for the mount itself, which adds to its versatility.Manufactured from aluminium with a nice black anodised finish.A handy addition to any content creators arsenal!
