Amazing customer service
Sharpens to a fine point. I had an issue with the first unit I received (the top didn't lock into place for which sized point you want) and their support fixed the problem extremely quick. So impressed that we got 2 more and another art student also bought one based off of using mine in a class. Great product.

Super Sharp!
I primarily prefer pens over pencils because I am so picky about how sharp my pencils need to be. This sharpener checks off a lot of my preferences, but not all of them. This sharpener gives you the option between three varieties of sharpness. 1. You can have a short but sharp pencil (sharpened at a wider angle). 2. You can choose the longer, more narrowly sharpened pencil but it has a blunt tip. 3. You can combine options one and two in order to get the sharpness of option one and the long, narrow angle of option two. This gives you a pencil with a more professional 'drafting' type appearance. This is the version I prefer! It is wicked sharp! However, it take a few steps to arrive at this outcome, making the process take 2x as long to sharpen a pencil. There is a dial on the top of the sharpener that you turn clockwise or counterclockwise in order to receive the outcome you want. To get the highest quality sharpness (option 3) you have to spin this dial both ways and sharpen your pencil twice. This is cumbersome, takes more time, and is not very convenient. It is a decent size for a sharpener and doesn't take up much space. It's capacity for holding pencil shavings is quite decent for its size and it doesn't need to be dumped frequently. The dial on the top is a bit wiggly and it is very hard to tell when you have fully turned it to the correct option. There is a lack of physical resistance or an audible 'click' of the dial engaging, it just turns loosely to the option you chose (I hope this makes sense to someone!)It really does produce a nice, sharp pencil; it's just a bit fiddly.

REVISED REVIEW!!!
I'm revising my review.First off, let me say this review is about Gazelltek and how they stand behind their products. If you read my prior review (and I hope you didn't), I left a scathing review of the "electric" pencil sharpener. Here's the deal...I bought one of these for my sketching and it worked great. Then I started an art course that used charcoal pencils. I bought another one when I was visiting the grandkids in Charlotte. When I tried using it -- DISASTER! It chewed up my charcoal pencils (which ain't cheap!), broke the points, it was a NIGHTMARE! So I wrote a scathing review ... and ... bought a sharpener from Staples. (It wasn't the best but was recommended by the art course and, at least, didn't destroy my pencils.A week or so after I wrote the review, Gazelltek emailed me and offered to refund the money I paid for the sharpener or send me a new one. I told them ... "Forget it." Not that I'm rich but I didn't need their refund and I wanted to remember NEVER to use their sharpener with my charcoal pencils. But ... they persisted. They offered to send me both a new electric ... and ... a manual sharpener. So I relented and they arrived today. When I opened the manual sharpener I though, "Holy crap ... it's plastic." I didn't even want to fool with it. I was reach to reseal the package and have UPS pick it up.Then, my wife tried the manual sharpener and said, "This is fantastic!" When she showed me the pencil point I was amazed. So I said, "Well, the test is the charcoal pencil."So I went out into my studio and grabbed one of them. I put it through the manual sharpener and was absolutely blown away with how easy it was to get a great point.I was still afraid to use the electric sharpener based on my prior experience. So ... I figured I needed to try it. To Gazell's point, they said the sharpener could have been defective. (When I put the pencil into the sharpener, the selector switch at the top spun around. When I sharpened the pencil it came out perfect (the image with the electric sharpener in the background).So...I have to retract my original 1 star review and replace it with this one.Not only does Gazelltek make great sharpeners, they stand behind their products 100%.Gazelltek has redefined pencil sharpeners -- kudos to them!Thank you for being patient with me. (I bought two more manual sharpeners and will pay for the manual they sent me.)If you need a pencil sharpener - especially for your artwork - these are the ones to buy - period ... end of story!

chews through pencils
I am a professional artist. I have used a lot of methods for sharpening pencils over the years. I keep returning to the standard cut-it-with-a-razor-then-sand-the-tip method. It is slow, painful, and stressful. At my university, I came across a portable and lightweight AFMAT sharpener. It was a different model than this one. I was impressed - even though I only used it for a short time - how that model developed a better point than any other sharpener I have used. It was quick, accurate, and portable. I purchased this model because it seemed beefier and could do an even longer point. I have been very disappointed. This sharpener doesn't sharpen pencils - it chews through them. In order to start the sharpener, I have to shove the pencils with more force than I should have to. It feels like the pressure it takes to trigger the sharpening mechanism is a serious design flaw, contributing to the pressure the pencil is being forced against the blades. Often the pencil core would break off in the sharpener. While other sharpeners I have used are difficult to remove a broken lead from the sharpener's blades, this AFMAT is simply impossible. There is no clear access to the blades. There is no way to wiggle the core out. In the instructions it even tells you that if you get a tip stuck, their solution is to take another pencil and shove it hard enough into the running sharpener that the device will 'eject' the broken tip. I have had to do this many times and it doesn't do good things for the second pencil you put into the sharpener.Overall, I am very disappointed in this sharpener. It is too brute to sharpen art pencils. I will try the other model (AFMAT PS09) and hope that it isn't so violent towards my expensive pencils.

Excellent choice for artists.
Wish I would have seen this a long time ago. Works like a charm and saves a lot of "xacto" blades.
