5 Sea Buckthorn 2-3ft Edible Coastal Hedging, Hippophae Rhamnoides 3fatpigs®

Wanted to cover an area where a key land I tree was removed. Needed to be tough plants but also attractive and good for wildlife. These seemed a good option. The plants arrived (10) bundled together. Didn’t look like 10 at first (so I complained) but were 11 when I actually unpacked them, once the snow had gone (sorry!) The company can offer useful advice if asked; unfortunately, because I’d complained, I got a rather petulant response. The plants are all now budding, so all’s well that ends well.

Very disappointed. I bought these in 2020 and assumed that there would be a mix of male and female which is what is needed for the plant to produce fruit. The plants are thriving but will never produce fruit as there was no male in the bunch. I contacted the seller and they said that it is really pot luck if you get both male and female.

Yes good size plants and healthy .only problem is you can not tell at this age whether they are male or female

Descent looking plants, roots were a bit dry, but they are all sprouting now

Excellent trees well wrapped i am in Orkney and conditions are harsh for plants and trees but they seem to be taken well and budding.

Arrived in reasonable time, however roots were completely bare and dry. Despite soaking in water for 48 hours prior to planting 2 of the plants show no signs of life

The plants were delivered quickly and within timescales - so that was great. However…ask more questions!Male and female plants needed to provide berries - the seller can’t confirm what sex the plants they send you arePlants need to be 3+ years to provide fruit - these are obviously young plants so it’s going to be a few years before (potentially) any fruit is developed…assuming you have male and plants.It’s hard to differentiate which plant is what sex …so even when the plants mature it will be hard for an amateur to establish what plants they have and what they need.Potentially I’ve now got a number of years before I know the sex of the plants and before I may (or may not) get any fruit. I am patient and I am resilient but I’ve learnt that you need to much more research and ask many more questions before buying.Spend a lot more and get more Mature plants if you want fruit sooner rather than later. But it really would be great if the seller knew:A) how old the plants are and told usB) which was male, which was female and supplied a few of each.
