Great coffee alternative and highly recommend it
I've had this coffee alternative for about a month now and I have to say it's probably the best I've had. So in the past I used to drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day and did so for 8 years. Over that time I had a lot of different types of coffee, cheap store brands, medium level stuff like Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks etc and also higher level stuff like Blue Bottle. I can't have much caffeine anymore since it overstimulates my body and makes me sick. So I went on to search for coffee alternatives, I've had Teeccino which was ok, it does have a bit of a strange taste and I can tell it's not coffee. I've also had Dandy Blend which is still tasty to drink but once again I can tell it's not coffee. Now move onto Ayurvedic Roast which is fantastic. The bag came well sealed which is great so it's fresh. You open it up and I got a nice nutty coffee smell. I tasted the grounds and it tastes just like coffee with some sweetness. I first proceeded to brew it in my drip coffee maker. As it's brewing it smells just like a nice pot of medium roast coffee. It finishes and I pour it in my cup to drink. I drink my coffee black so I can taste all the nuances in it. The first sip tastes just like a medium roast Columbian coffee, that is a strong coffee taste at first that mellows into a cherry fruity taste with a slight bitter aftertaste. I can also taste a bit of the ashwagandha, it has a distinctive hay taste. Most people won't be able to taste it because I have a strong palate and I also take ashwagandha daily so I know what it smells and tastes like. So anyway I literally can't really tell it much apart from coffee which is great. At work I brew it in a tea strainer which also works great, you can stop pouring near the bottom to keep the really fine grounds out or dump them in if you like them. I've also had it in my French press which is just like brewing it in the tea strainer. Now to take it one step further to test it, I've covered up the bag label, handed it to my friends to smell and they all say it smells like coffee. I've brewed a cup for a few of my friends before, they like cream and sugar in theirs so I add it. When they taste it without me even saying what it is, they are like it's coffee but then I tell them it's a coffee alternative and they are shocked. I also have acid reflux which is the other reason I quit coffee because of the oil from the beans and caffeine would upset my stomach and give me heartburn. I don't get heartburn at all from Ayurvedic Roast which is what I wanted. I would highly recommend this to people who love the taste of coffee but can't have coffee anymore for reasons.

Not even close....
So I read a couple of reviews before buying this, and based on them I really hoped it met the hype. I started drinking coffee when I was in high school by the time I was in college, I was drinking 3-4 cups a day. Upon graduating I really got into coffee, I mean I had no problem buying cheap beer (that would change later) but early on I loved good coffee. I would drink different roasts and bean depending on the season, what I has eating, what time of day it was, and as coffee became a big deal with the popular chain stores, I became even more of a coffee snob. I currently own every type of device that can be used to make a cup of coffee. Black no sugar. I would turn up my nose at all those froo-froo drinks that have gotten so popular. Of course all that came to an abrupt end when I figured out that coffee (not just caffeine) triggers my chronic migranes I had been getting. I had to stop. So for the past three years I have had maybe 10 cups of coffee (only decaf but it still hurts), but now even that is too much. I know it is not the same but I have the general idea of addiction. I wake everyday craving a cup even a little sip. Which brings me to this review. I was super excited to find out that there were products such as coffee substitutes.I was tentative but excited. This brand one has been the second one I tried. It is horrible. I mean no amount of milk and sugar can improve it. It smells vaguely like coffee but it tastes like dirt, grant good dirt like the rich loamy stuff you might want in your garden. I know that is where my bag is going as soon as the ice and snow melts. This coffee should be re-branded as organic potting soil.Granted this is my opinion, but then again all reviews are opinions and should be taken as such.Cheers

Post-divorce happiness
Coffee and I met when I was 16. Despite my youth we married right away. Over the 50 years we were together, we went through all the changes a couple does -- from instant to perc to drip to espresso to latte to decaf, then decaf with full bore, then back to decaf. We even tried a threesome and added milk, then cream, then 1/2 and 1/2. In the end, despite all of our efforts, we couldn't stand each other and fought all the time. I was finally told to just let go. Then tea? Nice companion at times, but not for the long haul. Someone suggested I meet Pero. I had already done that. So I went online and found a nice-looking prospect, Ayurvedic Roast. I was drawn by the obvious well-meaning nature of the grains and herbs and I've always been a fan of Ayurvedic approaches to health. So I arranged a sample meeting. It was not love at first sight. I like a strong, dark companion and it took a couple of tries before we hit it off. Here's how we do it: boil 1-2 cups of water, add 2 tablespoons of Ayurvedic Roast and simmer for 1-2 minutes. Add equal parts milk (cow, soy, almond, rice, etc) and bring back to a simmer; strain and serve. Sometime we invite a little cocoa powder to the party. We are now very happy together. I was not looking to duplicate coffee -- after all that relationship ended up trying to destroy me. What I found is warming, strong-flavored and supportive without any of the frenzy and dehydration I suffered before. I've introduced Ayurvedic Roast to a very stressed out coffee addicted boss, who is anxious to make the switch.I have been promised a free 11oz bag of Ayurvedic Roast for writing this review. Why would I want another bag if I didn't really really like this product? So I am most happy to write and share my happiness.
