Simple. Bought it to pierce tins, that’s what it does.

Cheap
You get what you pay for. The wooden handles (scales) are very loose and wobbly. I bought this primarily to punture tins, such as evaporated milk, but the hole it creates leaves a significant gap from the edge of the can rim and so pouring can be a messy as the 'cut off' isn't neat. I might get my grinder out and shorten the tip of the piercer to make it better.
