Does what it's designed for.
Brilliant, I bought this for my 80 yr old mum. She has found it easy to use and loves the dictation mode rather than the typing. The handy docking station means it's always charged and always on now rather than flat and stuck in a draw. She is loving learning WhatsApp and photos etc which is something she did not use on her previous phones as she found it too fiddly and small.

Good but not that good
In all my business years i have stuck to my Nokia 6310i phone, what a phone, unfortunately it died on me last week. I have never looked at smartphones before to expensive and to technical for what i needed, a friend of mine suggested i looked at the Doro 8040 so i bought one, i must admit for what i need a phone for i thought it be up my street, and it was not to technical and reasonably priced, had a bit of a play with it and seemed very good, all the apps i wanted were there, easy texting and emails all the internet i needed, unfortunately when on a call the person i was speaking to they could not here what i was saying although i did have the speaker up on high they couldn`t hear me, so returned it, the phone might have been a compromise as i felt that it was good in every other way but for the clarity. I have now bought a A3 2017 smartphone more of a technical phone for what i need but has everything going for it including very high volume from my end to the person i am speaking to 5 stars for the A3 but sorry only 4 for the 8040.

Great phone for Hearing Aid wearers
I just love this phone, it's so easy to use it has everything you could want - takes great photos, easy texting. The only issue is the battery life, but then it all depends on how much you us it! Good support from Doro should you need it.

Room for improvement
This phone was bought for my 20 yr old daughter who has learning difficulties and some mild coordination issues.I've used Doro for her for the past 9 years due to the simplicity of the phones and good size buttons however the issue has always been that these phones, that are specifically aimed at elderly or impaired persons, have fidly mini charging connections where the cable can only be inserted one way, therefore not great for people with vision impairment, physical coordination problems. We have had to replace phones on a regular basis due to these small fragile connections breaking easily due to her not being dextrous enough to put the charging cable in delicately enough. So moving onto the 8040 - with it's charing cradle....genious I thougt, that solves the charing problem, pop it on the cradle, job done......What i'd failed to think through, was that this smartphone could not be charged in it's case, which in itself offers no protection for persons who are even more prone to dropping it than "regular" people without additional physical or mental impairments or in other words, their target audience of elderly, impaired persons. So despite purchasing the magnetic case to stand the best chance of protection, the screen was broken within a few weeks of purchase (due to having to take it out the case, every time you charge). The phone has been working fine for past 3 months with the cracked screen however several weeks ago, it started to turn itself on and off randomly, then black screening with stripes on the screen and now it's died completely.Waste of £200 due to poor and lack of suitable protection options offered by the manufacturer due to short sightedness and lack of basic awareness of the target audiences needs, which has continued in the manufacturer since I can remember.I've now purchased an iphone for her which I can lock up protectively in an otterbox defender case, offering the phone maximum protection and with the lightening connector, it doesn't matter which way around the cable is inserted therefore sight, mental and physical needs taken care off.Could have been so good as I was impressed with the ability to strip back the software to a basic, simple and uncluttered operating system.

Full functional smart phone, but with easy option for main apps
I got this for my Mum for her 90th Birthday, as he existing phone didn't support WhatsApp. The phone has everything you'd expect from an Android smart phone, but has the option of the easy-to-use screen, which asks you what you want to do next, send a message, make a call etc, then gives options for which app to use. Handset feels very well made.

simple and effective
Impressively easy to use. Ideal for my MumPutting Pictures against her contacts, especially using the four available contact points on the opening screen has made using a mobile phone so easy for my Mum who is 92 years old. And recording and playback of pictures via your phone's big screen has enabled her to see and follow our family members who are scattered around the world.Highly recommended

Pretty but Useless
This was bought as a Christmas present for my wife and her first smart phone. Whilst it is easy to use and has lots of good features, the vaunted 550 Hours of battery life on standby is actually less than 36 (when you don't use it at all). In fact with minimal basic use (a few phone calls and the odd text) it lasts less than 24 hours and chirps at you during the night to remind you. We have talked to Doro who apart from initially responding very quickly and asking for info, have done nothing. My wife was unable to make an important phone call because it had run out of battery. So we reduced all the settings, turned off Bluetooth and literally didn't use it for a day and a half (OK we looked at the screen twice). From being fully charged at 18:30, over the next day and a half (so 07:00 in the morning) it was dead. My daughter and I have smart phones and mine is used for business and lasts 3 days on medium usage. My daughter is a fairly heavy user and hers needs charging every 2 days, but as my wife hasn't even started to use the "extra features" and just a few phone calls and texts, this is unacceptable and it is/has been returned.

Not impressed
Meant to be simple for "Seniors" but after 6months my wife still finds it impossible!!
