I like this supplement. I have no idea why, but I do
You need to bear in mind that very nearly all of the 'benefits' of a food supplement such as this one are the product manufacturer's claims. Obtaining reliable, independent and accurate evaluations of most supplements is challenging and time-consuming.I have been taking Apex Vitality Probiotics Inulin every day for one complete month now. I must say straight away that I have not noticed any obvious benefits. The manufacturer (or distributor) states that "this dietary supplement may help support normal digestive functions", but, much as I wanted it to help my digestive functions, the sad fact is that nothing much has changed, and I think I'd have noticed by now. So here we have yet another supplement that MAY provide a given benefit, but of course that also means that it may not. And for me, it did not. Having lived my entire adult life with IBS and/or constipation, I would be singing its benefits from the rooftops if it had done what they said it might.I'm not singing from the rooftops.I'm neither a vegetarian nor a vegan, so I'm not bothered about its vegan suitabilities. There is no clear evidence that probiotics are beneficial. While many small studies have been conducted, there has been no standardised way to study probiotics and their effects, making it difficult to compare the results of different studies. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved no specific health claims for probiotics. So while the word 'probiotics' might sound cool, in scientific terms it's of little benefit. I regard it as mostly sales shpiel.According to the NHS here in the UK, probiotics are thought to help restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut (including your stomach and intestines) when it's been disrupted by an illness or treatment. There's some evidence that probiotics may be helpful in some cases, such as helping to ease some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). But there's little evidence to support many health claims made about them. For example, there's no evidence to suggest that probiotics can help treat eczema. But for most people, probiotics appear to be safe. If you want to try them, and you have a healthy immune system, they shouldn't cause any unpleasant side effects.

Should really say ‘PROBIOTICS with Inulin’ as the Inulin dose is rather small
I have been taking inulin for a long time. Ever since that Michael Mosley programme on the BBC several years ago where the Newsreader (Angela Rippon) was recommended to take it by a consultant to help to remove excess fat around her organs (even though she was actually fairly slim, you can still have more fat around your organs then is ideal, and that showed up on a scan she did for the programme). I am convinced of the general benefits of inulin. However, I generally take an organic one in a powder form. Normally three teaspoons in the morning with water (so maybe 15g? As it’s about 5g per teaspoon.) Will continue with that, as I’m not convinced there is an adequate dose in this. It is only 100mg (so 150 times less than the powder I take!). However, this is combined with a probiotic, so that may help if you don’t take a probiotic currently.Bit weird how big the letters ‘Inulin’ are on this! When really, it’s a very low dose of inulin; but with a somewhat ok dose of probiotics. Honestly I think the doses of both are kinda low. Here is the ingredient list (as of Jan 2023): (the letters on the side of the packet are stupidly small; so make sure you have reading glasses to hand!):Inulin - 100mgLactobacillus Acidophilus - 1 Billion CFULactobacillus Casei - 1 Billion CFUStreptococcus Thermophilus - 0.1 Billion CFULactobacillus Salivarius - 0.1 Billion CFUBifidobacterium Bifidum - 0.1 Billion CFULactobacillus Rhamnosus - 0.1 Billion CFUSo, you are looking at 100mg of Inulin and 2.4 billion gut bacteria cultures per tablet. Two of the ‘CFU’ ingredients do differ from another probiotic formula I take though (which has 10 billion CFU). So that’s useful. Mix things up a bit. (The Streptococcus Thermophilus and Lactobacillus Salivarius in case you are wondering!)It is also definitely more convenient as a tablet. There are 120 in this pack, and it’s 1 a day. So, that’s 4 months supply; which is good.If you don’t take a probiotic formula already; then I would say this might be ok (I’m doubtful though). You may however want to investigate uses. This one may be enough inulin to give the bacteria the equivalent of ‘soil to grow in’, in your gut, for example. The amount of inulin for that use seems similar (or even higher) than others I’ve seen with purely probiotic formulas. But anyway. It is a guess! I’m NOT a Doctor!). But there also don’t seem to be enough probiotics in it anyway. This one has 6 strains and 2.4 billion CFU per tablet. The other one I take has 14 strains and 10 billion CFU per tablet; by way of comparison. If you are looking for fibre type benefits, fat moving away from your organs effects (aka Angela Rippon) based on the inulin dose, then you may want to read up a bit more on what may work, and what doses to take. For that, I think the amount of inulin in this is way, way too low. (Again, I’m NOT a Doctor. You need to research this yourself). In reality, the label should probably read ‘PROBIOTICS’ in big letters, and ‘with Inulin’ in small letters. That would be a more accurate picture of the potential uses of this product. Given it is the other way around… I would say the labelling is a bit deceptive. Low dose all ways round and probably not very useful. Hence 3 stars.
