No joke - it's my life saviour
Update after 4 days of use:I'm devastated again - it only works for a couple of hours when the puppy is tired and he's back on normal... he's been barking and howling for the whole 3 hours after the first couple of hours (where it worked) when left alone... Not sure if I should give another chance at this and purchase diffuser or not :(--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am seriously about to cry out of hapiness. My 4 months old whippet puppy has a severe separation anxiety, which is likely to be because I got him during the christmas holiday where I made a huge mistake of not getting him used to be left alone. He would whine, howl and bark nonstop the whole time I was out, even if it was just for 1 minute. I had to figure out the way he can stay alone so I researched so much, read almost every article on internet about separation anxiety.Spent the whole two weeks during christmas/new years time working from home and trying to train him using all different kinds of methods including behavioural modification suggested by behaviourist but he just couldnt stay calm for more than 10 mins and bark and scratch the door which broke my heart as I really wanted him to be comfortable without me. I tried to ignore him a lot and crate train him etc so that he can be more independent, but he just continued to be clingy and anxious when left alone. Neighbours began to complain about the noise and I was getting so stressed and devastated as I really had to start going into office soon and I couldn't keep asking my sister to dogsit him during the day nor could I put him to daycare as he was too young for it. Apart from the behaviour modification I also tried: thundershirt, crate training and spray collar. Non of them worked, and I came across this while searching for my last resort solution. The same day I also consulted vet about the issue because I was simply desperate, and they also recommended this. But I was very very skeptical that this would work...It's the second day he's wearing this today, and as usual I gave him some toys and food and came out of my house leaving my facetime on with my macbook and iphone (which was why I knew he had separation anxiety). He normally would follow me to door and try to come out even if there were delicious food lying around at home, but this time he started eating food while I was coming out. Now that was the first surprise. He would then just eat it for 15 mins and didnt even notice that I wasnt around anymore. He then finished the food and he would just check out the door and entire house and realise that I wasn't around anymore, but he just went to his usual spot and just sat down elegantly. And after a couple of minutes he just went to sleep.... and it's been 2 hours. He's just sleeping, and if I make some noise outside, mimicking people passing by, he would wake up to listen, check out the door once again briefly, then go back to his usual spot and sleep again.I seriously just cannot believe what I am seeing right now. As I am out watching over him using face time now I am writing this insanely long essay review cause I am simply blown away. I never really write review especially not an essay like this but I just had to given the amount of time and money I've invested to cure him from separation anxiety and the stress I got over the past 3 weeks. Now, I am not saying this would work for every dogs out there, just like how thundershirt apparently does wonders to many dog with anxiety but did not do a thing to mine, but I highly recommend to at least give a go at this if you tried everything like me and really want to calm your dog long term (not using things like spray collar which doesnt calm your dog but rather scare them). This is seriously my life savour, will also purchase the diffuser as theis thing just works on my dog and it’s more than just worth it. Thank you so much Adaptil.

Ineffective for our dog
I found this Adaptil collar to be ineffective with our Jack Russel unfortunately, which would suggest he isn't receptive to the pheromones which are infused into the collar. I chose this collar over the plug-in as there isn't a plug close enough to his crate. This doesn't mean that it doesn't work for other dogs breeds etc. It just didn't work for our dog.

Worth trying
Used this for bonfire night. My dog did seem less agitated. That may have been due to the fact he is 4 now and generally less reactive. However, I would buy again, more in advance, and start using a few days before.

Works well on our small Pug cross. We do also use claiming tablets too.
This has worked wonders in conjunction with calming tablets. Our 10 year old pug cross has never settled even with the plug in version. She is terrified, shaking and panting in firework season. I can't say how much is the collar and how much is the tablets (also on Amazon Bob Martin) but for the first time in a decade, we have sussed it and she is chilled. Wary but chilled. It's expensive but now we have the 'fix' combo. It's worth every penny. Can't comment on its use without meds too though although she was more settled in general before we began the tablets on the run up to fireworks time.

Unlisted Side Effects, False Pregnancy Triggered. Use with caution!
Seems to be a number of side effects that can happen, yet none are listed which is very concerning when clearly from reviews here and our experience, there are many. Our dog didn’t have the skin symptoms and we thought it might be helping her be calm at first, keeping her “under threshold” more easily so we could work on her reactivity training. It lessened her reactivity to dogs and bikes, but started creating weird new behaviours two weeks in:Hugely reduced appetite (would go full day without food)Stopped taking chews/chewing (from pigs ear, pork bone with ham on, pizzle bone etc)Not settling in evening at all (usually would settle with a chew)Shaking excessively before walks, at squirrels and random times like when let out for looWanting to play before bedPrevious trained behaviours disappeared (settle in bed when were eating, going to bed at night with dentastick)Nesting more in bed and on blanketsCarrying dentastick/toy and cryingTrying to bury/hide dentastick/toy in bed or outsideCrying at toy to be let into her crate at nightAnd then by week 3; she started lactating. She’s had a “false pregnancy” previously which can happen after a season. This collar seemed to trigger it again (it was not directly after her season, definitely not coinciding with when we put it on).Within an hour of taking it off, she was settling better, eating and within about 24 hours she was completely back to herself. I’d say it’s worth trying and that every dog is different. It certainly has hormones that can trigger an effect; I’d just forewarn any owners with dogs that have previously had false pregnancies, keep a close eye on them as this clearly triggered it in our poor pup.
