Came ready to use, just ad batteries and go.

Failed in 5 minutes
I put fresh batteries in this unit and it came to life. I set it down for a few minutes and came back. The screen wouldn't light up and the back was getting very hot. I removed the batteries and they were both very hot. Seems like a short circuit. Returned the item.
