Yes, each ear piece respond independently, so you can tell direction of incoming sounds.

Q: When you turn on the mic, can you hear on both ears or only one?

Both ears. I believe it is a Omni-directional mic.

Q: Why is there a clicking and static noise when turning on the volume switch?

There shouldn’t be any noise at all. The volume is for deadening the outside noise.
