Kid loves it.
This was purchased for my son for a science project (monitor/log their activity). It looks great and worked as it should. He has had it for a couple months now and still going great, but I dont expect it to last all that long. You can see where water has begun to push itself between the clear cover. Itll begin to mold at some point. That is the only downside I have with it. Looks cool, was easy to set up, easier to see what is going on. Would purchase again in the future if needed.Ants are smart. They will try to escape! I will say that when you go to feed them, be prepared to do what you need to do. Do not open that top and take your sweet time. The ants will communicate to the far other end of the farm instantly and youll have a stampede coming your way to escape... I found this out the hard way, but not through the feeding slot. Which brings me to an important note...Important note: For those who did not fully read the manual or forgot by the time it came around, when you go to add your water every week or so, notice there is a tiny opened hole in the clear casing not too far from the middle, just above the area filled with sand. The hole is just big enough for the tip of the water applicator to fit in to. This is where you add water. Absolutely do not do what I did and think "Mhmm.. where am I suppose to add this water? Oh, I probably need to remove the round plastic cover where we poured the sand in." Do not be like me. Stupid stupid me. I made sure there were no ants in the area before I removed that cover, but it didnt matter. It took all of 2 seconds before an ant showed up, and once the one ant did, they were alllll heading that way. I had a dozen escape in less than 15 seconds. I was in a panic. It was HORRIBLE. Have you seen Mars Attacks? This was like that. I was being invaded and overrun by ants who wanted my blood. I was in a panic and couldnt get the round cover back on. Nothing was going right. I found the first thing I could to cover the hole and screamed for someone to bring me tape. The hole is now covered by tape. For those wondering, I did survive the attack. Not without injury though. Not without injury.

Ant castle, sturdy, IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN
I’d like to say that I don’t think any farms are supposed to be long term investments and supposedly the ants die after like 3-4 weeks according to their package. But this isn’t the ant review, this is the FARM review, so…I really liked that this ant farm was so big and came with literally everything you need to get this up and running (minus the actual ants). It has the ant castle with clear acrylic sides so you can watch the ants to your heart’s content, white sand (don’t put it all in, the ants need somewhere to put the sand displaced from their tunnels), a test tube for water so they can hydrate, and tools to help you care for the ant farm and keep it clean (tweezers, little palm tree for decoration, water squeeze bottle to keep sand moist, pipette to also give spot treatments of water). It even came with a little flag thumb tack thing that had no instructions for its use and I can’t figure out why it was included. So feeding the ants is both easy and tricky. Firstly, follow the instructions that come with your ants on what and how and how often to feed them. The ant farm itself has a great system to drop in the food. It has a locking trap door that has a couple large holes that you can drop food into or remove old food. Great, right? Yes, but the ants will take bits of this food and bring them into the inner chambers of the farm and store them there where they get moldy and gross! Then there is no way to clean it out (hence the disgusting pictures). For some reason they put a majority of their food right next to the water cotton roll and then that whole chamber just got suuuuper gross. I thought this would introduce disease to the ants and they’d die. But lo and behold, one whole year later and the ants are still kicking! If you want this thing for a short while, perfect. Get it! It’s the luxury mansion/castle of ant farms! But don’t expect it to be clean and white forever. It looks disgusting now and there is no way to clean it.I don’t know why I’ve kept it this long or why I haven’t just chucked the entire thing in the trash and said good riddance. Maybe it’s because they’re living creatures. Maybe it’s because I spent so much on this dang ant palace.Anyway. It’s a great quality ant farm.

I love it!
I got this ant farm for my kid but I think I've gotten more joy from it than anyone. The instructions were good and it was easy to setup. It's pretty easy to put food in and take old stuff out with the use of tweezers. The water tube works until it gets halfway empty (or half full) so make sure to check it at that point. This only works with one colony, unless you want to unscrew everything and buy new sand, which would be tedious imo. Overall, I think it was worth the money. I've not had any escapees and my ants have been alive for about a month!

Ant Castle Review
This ant castle has been great, an awesome work desk decoration! I was unsure about buying ants, so decided to catch some with a tupperware and leaf to sweep them into it from my backyard. The castle itself is great, a nice layout. Nice water implementation system which doesn't allow ants to escape. I've had my castle going for almost two months now. Every other week I add some new ants.Following the instructions with the castle for feeding has kept the ants alive and well. The only dirtiness in the castle is from the waste of the ants. If you keep food to a minimum there is no mold or nastiness.(They don't eat much) Any bugs I added to feed for protein I slightly squished before putting them in. They cleaned the bodies completely so they never got gross.Even if unable to take apart and clean at the end of this adventure, it was worth it. I will be getting another one eventually. Definitely recommend!
