A True Value Champ! One Lens to Rule Them All?
The media could not be loaded. So... Your fear of changing lenses in the middle of the street has brought you here. An all in one 17x zoom lens from 18mm - 300mm (27mm - 450mm FF eq). This is fantastic!! An absolute value for money that you can bring along, not have to hit the gym to make your arms strong - the lens weighs only around 625 grams, and zoom to your heart's content.Let's get down to business. The image quality is good enough, as you can see from my photos. At 300mm it does suffer from reduced contrast and sharpness. You could combat that by reducing your aperture to around f8-11 according to the lighting conditions in your environment. At 18mm, it's at its widest aperture of f3.5, again not the sharpest and at such wide angles you'd mostly be capturing landscapes, so you would have to bring your aperture down. The image is very sharp from f5.6 onwards at the wider end.Autofocus is silent and very fast and works beautifully with Sony's Eye AF and Tracking AF and other modes. Zero complaints here.Let's talk about vignetting now. At the wider end, esp below 70mm (105mm FF eq) you will notice vignetting around the corners. At some focal length ranges like around 35, 50 etc at f4, you will notice pretty strong but very small vignetting. In camera corrections won't be able to correct for that. Either you can crop your photo later or reduce the aperture if you can. Sharp and visible vignetting is not an issue at higher focal lengths as can be made out from my photos. Look at the photo of the Ferris wheel to see sligh vignetting at the corners. At the wider end you do get a bit of distortion, so make sure to turn on distortion compensation in your camera.Coming to Bokeh, it's not a bokeh beast because of the relatively smaller aperture range that it has to work with (f3.5-f6.3) and the aperture darkens fast when you begin to zoom. But even then due to the higher focal lengths available in this lens, if you get the distance right, you'll get a very sweet Bokeh in the background due to lens compression. Don't compare this Bokeh to a prime lens and you'll be happy.Speaking of aperture, it's strictly a day time lens, and ISO will very quickly start to ramp up after dusk. It is not recommended to use this lens for low light photography due to its variable aperture. Can you absolutely not use it at night? Well, of course you can!! If you have enough artificial lighting you are good to go. Otherwise, buy a prime lens like the Sigma 30mm as a light companion. This also works as a wonderful macro lens at the widest and most telephoto end, though at the widest end you'd have to be very close to the subject to get the best macro reproduction. Be careful that the subject doesn't touch and scratch your lens. Although it has good coatings that make it easy to clean. This lens does offer image stabilization and it's pretty good. I use it with my a6600 with also has IBIS, although not that great. The video I attached was shot at 300mm handheld, so you can get an idea of the body+lens stabilization. The zoom ring is a little tight, it's not parfocal. And the MF ring is a bit loose. But at 40-45k (this does go on sale, just remember to check the seller rating before buying) this is indeed a very good lens for travellers who don't want to change lenses and run the risk of dropping them on a busy street or from the top of a mountain.I got it for 63k, but if you can get it at the above price, you're good to go. You can also keep it as a backup lens if you want and can afford multiple lenses. Of course, nothing beats a prime lens, but having this versatility with a few compromises can be a life saver for many.

Value for money....
Everything is absolutely fantastic about this lens... But be sure to handle the weight.. but the weight is justified because it covers a huge focal distance. Picture quality is way better than kit lens... Zoom ring is little tight.... Good for photography... Value for money product.....
