Kaplan and Sadock's Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry (2 Volume Set) 10th Edition

Great update! Obviously I haven't been able to read a ton, but the updates to the pharmacology sections and neurobiology sections are great. I do feel this was a great update to older editions. I prefer the physical book, but have honestly spent more time looking at the online version or mobile app. I have no complaints about the online access or mobile app. By and large they work fine. It's interesting how much larger this book is compared to the first edition I bought in the early 90s (6th edition). Of course, as others in the field have said, it lacks in some areas, but overall it is an excellent overview of all aspects of psychiatry, psychology, and psychopharmacology, in addition to related medical problems and subspecialties.

This book set is very thorough. I would recommend it to any psychiatrist. Really I wouldn’t want to go see a psychiatrist that didn’t have this in their office and at least read it once or twice. If anyone knows a psychiatrist who has read this book set twice please let me know I will refer all my complicated patients to them immediately. I am a practicing Board certified psychiatrist in Ardmore Oklahoma and I give this book set 2 really big thumbs up.

I need these books for work. It is the industry wide resource. I'm glad I purchased them for less than $300.00. The only thing missing was the shrink wrap.

Unlike the other reviews here, this four star review represents the actual book content, and not technical issues.Having read the "Synopsis" of psychiatry, the comprehensive textbook is definitely more in depth in certain areas, but generally contained the same limited content for a few disorders. In my opinion, the "Mood Disorder" section was more a synopsis, as the authors skimped out on Bipolar disorders, Dysthymia, and Cyclothymia. They also including the very same case studies and pictures from the Synopsis. Nevertheless, the information about MDD was fairly comprehensive.The "Biological Therapies", "Substance Related Disorders", and "Classification in Psychiatry" sections also included less information than I expected, and left me fairly disappointed.Probably the best part of this book is the insights offered in the psychiatric aspects of antisocial behavior, and the criticism of the psychopathy construct.

Right tool for me. I am a psychologist working with MD's. This is a useful tool and generally more informative than quick search of internet.

It arrived with some dents at the sides but overall the book was in great condition. Thank you.
