It is thick enough to be rigid, without being blunt. The radius and polish on the edges is excellent, making it easy to put a sharp crease, without risk of marks on the material, including book cloth. It is definitely worth buying.

I have avoided buying some plastic or wooden ones; often the plastic ones have edges that are too sharp, and they are overly lightweight in the hand. Wooden ones often have a surface that is rough or too porous. I was pleased to find this one made of bone, the best material I know of for this tool. This product met all my requirements and expectations. It has the weight and density of bone, and the shaping and polishing are perfect on it. I passed my bamboo one to a friend who might have judged bone as too icky. If you haven't seen a good bone tool, they are slightly off-white in color, smooth and slightly cool to the touch, and weigh more than plastic, but they don't look much like bone as you see it in cooking or outdoors.
