Q: I know it has the dimensions for the collar in description, however looking to verify that the slots for the collar are really 2.55"?

No, I had a 1 inch collar and it did not fit. I ended up ripping the slot trying to get buckle through. I was very disappointed.

Q: Could I hang a leash?

That is hard to say. It is small. You might be able to wrap it around? But I think if you want to display the leach you should get a larger shadow box. The collar was small enough to fit in. I don’t think a big dog’s collar would fit. Hope this helps.

Q: is there a piece of glass or plastic to protect the collar?

Yes. Glass covers the whole frame, including the collar.
