Good starting book and secret to know about staves.
I read the reviews and decided I need to let everyone know that I as a beginner realized something that have not seen in any of the books or videos that I have watch on YouTube. First of all I consider myself beginner teaching myself from books and videos and never had a personal instructor and I purchased this book for my grandson which is 8 years old. True this book it only has Treble clef and no Base clef but for someone that has never touched a piano or keyboard before it is sufficient especially for a child as a first book. Here is the secret that I have realized and not seen in any books or videos, once you have learned the Treble Clef you can use it to teach yourself Base Clef from it, all you have to do shift everything down by one line or space and the names of lines or spaces will be the same. For instance line five on Treble Clef is F, so by shifting it down one line, Base clef line four is F, space four on Treble Clef is E, space three on Base clef is E and so on. So you know names of Base clef line and spaces by knowing the Treble Clef. Also, I recommend once you have learned a song in the book playing it by your right hand now play the same song with your left hand, basically you are training your fingers to move on the keys, and as another exercise you can also assume the stave is a Base clef and write down its names of notes below the stave and that is how you can use this book to learn both staves.

Song book only.
I bought this for my 7 y.o. I was a little hesitant at first because it didn't have pictures of the inside, and I have no clue what I'm doing, but you can't beat $5.. so hoping for the best I bought it. Lol it has 30 common nursery rhymes, easy to read and straight forward, even I understood it. HOWEVER! It doesn't show hand placements, how to properly sit, where the cords are etc etc, so I would recommend purchasing a different book for that or not even buying this one. It only has songs, it's not wrong when it says for beginners, but this is the next step for beginners. It also has a couple pages in the back to write your own compositions. Which is kind of cute.

Great book for beginners
Great book for beginners. All the songs are easy and fun to learn. Also the songs are songs that everyone knows. They are mostly nursery rhymes. The book doesn't stay open so I had to use a clip which was kinda frustrating. Once you get better at the piano the songs are kinda too easy. Even if you know a little bit about the piano and the notes this book might be too easy. I like how above all the notes they have the note name on top of it. Which that they had some more songs only had 30 and also had some songs using both hands not just one.

Super easy, one and two hands
The book had 30 easy songs. Mostly nursery rhyme type songs, most ppl know them so you’ll also remember the tempo to play too. The book is paperback so it’s made the same as coloring book styles. Use a clip or clothespin to help keep it open. A couple of songs are two handed play. We haven’t gotten there yet. I received this within 5 days of order and I also ordered the Reusable Piano Key Note Keyboard Stickers for 9.97 from this site. We love them too!!! My adult daughter laughed and told me those would’ve been great when I was taking lessons. I had to agree. Now she’s using them as reminders. Lol. With daily practice I’m thinking they’ll move up a level or two within two to three weeks. So...looking to more advanced books soon.

Not the ideal first book
This product is advertized as the ideal first book for piano players. I do not agree. I think it would make a good second or third book, but not first. About 1/3 of the songs involve accidentals which I don't believe should be included in an ideal first book - when the student is still learning the basics of reading music. That being said, the pieces that do have accidentals only focus on one at a time, making it great for learning key signatures after a student has already mastered the basics of the treble clef.

A great way to get started with very basic songs
These are very basic song, right-hand only. If you don't know how anything about music, and want to play songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb, this is the book for you.In other words, it's a good beginner book. Since you know the songs - they're popular kid songs / folk songs - it's easier to read the music, and, you'll recognize what you're playing, and heck, even have fun and encourage you to learn more. You won't become an advanced piano player, but it should encourage you to learn more, as you / your kid will be able to master these without getting discouraged.
