SMAKN® PAM8406 Amplifier Board, German Quality! ! Definitely More Than PAM8403

I have been purchasing PAM8403s, PAM8610s, and TDA7297s, and discovered your little amp. I am so glad I did, because the amp performs excellently in my smallest cigar box amplifier/speakers.I was using a PAM8403s for my small applications and projects, until I discovered SMAKN’s PAM8406. This 6 watt amplifier simply stated, it WAILS, in my Oliva Nub Habana 464T Cigar Box Speaker/Amplifier.Don’t misunderstand my statement. The PAM8403 is a good amp, and serves a purpose in small applications and projects. However, the PAM8406 doubles the wattage in close to the same footprint, and without the soldering of the PAM8403.I will definitely purchase more of these SMAKN PAM8406 Class-D PCB amplifiers. And, without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend this amplifier to anyone looking for a big sound from a small amp. I cannot speak to customer service, because it wasn’t need at this point in time. That is a good thing!What is the kicker for me, is the PAM8406 doubles the wattage without increasing the voltage necessary to power the amplifier. I can still provide a portable music device that is powered by 5 volts, e.g., cell phone power bank, and delivers more sound.I have attached a video that demonstrates the powerful sound delivered by the SMAKN 8406. NOTE: In my attached video, I have removed the sliding box top, and the back is open and not acting as an enclosure. With the sliding lid in place, the sound is much more rich with ample bass response.I'm sorry the video is not available to view. Apparently the SMAKN shop owner found it necessary not to include the video.

I don't know why they lie about it being German. To me this is a huge trust issue already shows me what kind of person the seller is, dishonest. I still bought this amp due to good reviews so I guess they still won. But here it goes, the amp sounds good, not much noise when not playing audio if any. Indeed better than the PAM8403 I had and blew in 5 min (I think I shorted it oh well it sucked). Stop BSing and just admit it's Chinese cause it's really a decent quality amp no need to be ashamed of the country of origin. The soldering is acceptable but as others have mentioned it looks hand-soldered not necessarily bad all the connections are good, but a couple PCB components such as one of the terminals is mounted a bit crooked but it will be inside my rpi housing so im not worried. All in all worth it to me. Just hopefully the replacement that comes Saturday has all the dang screws. (I do realize the little screws are easy to lose but come on man how do you back it with a missing screw?)

Mine was DOA the first time I tried to power it on. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try it out until after the return window had closed.

2 Problems. #1 is one of the speaker connections was completely rusted when I got it. #2 it skipped on certain songs like it was shorting out or like an old CD would do. Maybe this is because of the speaker connection? Who knows. Sometimes it would do it, other songs it wouldn't... Don't waste your money.

Audio works fine, plays nice and loud. I'm not sure why the product title mentions German quality. It's clearly made in China, as evidenced by the poor grammar in the product description, and the somewhat sloppy hand soldering. The circuit board had some sort of white powdery residue all over it. Probably solder flux or contaminated cleaning solution. I took it in to work and cleaned it up with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

The media could not be loaded. I usually use active speakers like near field monitors but I recently picked up an amazing HiFi system for free somehow, so I need a clean amplifier to drive it without coloring the sound. I also did not want to shell out money on an expensive amp for speakers I never expected on having in the first place.But oh wow! Did this not deliver!? It's perfect for driving these open baffle suspended 5" woofers. Sure, this amp not going to have glass-shattering wattage, but that is not what this is made for. It can still get very loud and the sound is pretty clean.It's worth mentioning that I am going from a Scarlette 2i2 preamp into this Amp module. I played with the gain stage on both to test coloration. The amp itself, just like anything, has a little coloration to it. I would say it's warmer than the Scarlette pre and I actually like it's sound better. However, the transient response of the amplifier felt slightly compromised in contrast to when the Scarlett was pre-amplifying at full power with a bit of support afterward with this module.Overall, it's extremely excellent for $10 and fit my needs well. Could not recommend more for the sub $100 bracket. It could probably even compete or beat out stuff that is 8x more expensive. Well played China.
