Inexpensive , heavy solid steel bottom , works great.
Works as intended ,fits ours espresso machine cup perfectly. Heavy bottom solid steel , top handle is aluminum with black powder coating. For the price it can't be beat. The thing is heavy you could knock out a burglar.I swear I get more froth on my espressos now because our old all aluminum tamper was lightweight and didn't fit the basket entirely. This tamper is heavy and that's a good thing , works great.Something about cheap lightweight tampers you seem to get uneven pressure on the basket . This heavyweight tamper distributes pressure even across the entire tamper surface and because of it's weight it sits in the basket really nicely. If you look at the picture the bottom is solid steel , and where the black part meets the top portion is aluminum with black powder coating.I have an all steel tamper which cost $40 and it weighs the same as this one , so the steel in this one seems to be of good quality. For $20 it's no brainer for those who wants solid steel heavyweight tamper on a budget price.

Tall and proud
This tamper is tall, about 4 inches, so you have to tamp like you write your name. It is heavy and nice . It is tall which makes it easier to find and grab. It fits my 58mm Unic portafilter perfect as Unic runs with steeper filter sides which binds a 58 mm tamper. I love this tamper. Will last a few lifetimes. There are $10 ones, but this one is worth the extra money.

But I would recommend it to others
Much higher quality than I expected. I would have rated it 4.5 stars, but I can't. I docked it half a star because the powder coating had some bumps on it. As far as I know, it just a cosmetic thing. But I would recommend it to others. It fits my Cafe Via Vinetzia perfectly. Unless the product falls apart or rusts out, I don't think this tamper is going anywhere. I'll probably gift one to my dad.

Great Tamper With a Funny Handle Works Well and Feels Good
With most of the other 53mm tampers being twice the price of this one, or else aluminum, I decided to give this one a try. I wasn't sure how I'd like the unconventional handle shape, but in the end I'm glad I chose this. It is a good, heavy, solid stainless steel tamper, and it turns out that I really like the handle. As for the sizing, it's spot-on. Fits my basket perfectly - any larger and I'm sure it would stick (as it is I must be careful to lift straight up); any smaller and it would leave coffee around the edges that can eventually muck up the portafilter locking mechanism. In conclusion, this is a substantial tamper with an unusual but comfortable handle. I think you'll like it too.

Comfortable, cleanly designed, and solidly made
Nice heft and balance, and the flattened handle top is comfortable when really leaning on this tamper. The 53 mm size fits the basket of my "vintage" Swiss-made Krups espresso maker well.Clean lines, with all-metal construction. The tamping head on mine is machined stainless steel, with a threaded-on handle of cast metal with a durable black finish. The handle snugs up firmly and is centered by a locating pilot, so they feel like one rigid piece when assembled. This tamper wasn't the cheapest available, but was far from the most expensive. I like it and feel it delivers solid value for its cost.

Perfectly good tamper at half the price if you don't care how it looks.
This is a perfectly good tamper at a reasonable price. The espresso machine at work has some oddly shaped portafilter baskets that start to narrow almost at the top, so regular 58mm tampers get stuck preventing a proper tamp. This slightly smaller 57mm tamper works much better in my admittedly niche situation. The build quality is just as good as that of the Cafelat tamper I use at home, and the tamper of unknown origin that I used to use at work. The handle isn't as pretty as one on a Cafelat, but it's half the price.

The build quality of this product is great. But I had to return for a refund
The build quality of this product is great. But I had to return for a refund. Although it is advertised and physically marked as being 54mm, the actual size after measuring with calipers is just over 55mm. It did not work with my 54mm portafilter.

The Best Yet
I've owned numerous tampers over the past 25 or 30 years but this one is the best yet. It's hard to believe that the right tamper can make a difference in how your espresso shot is brewed, but it definitely does. Great weight, FLAT BOTTOM (which I believe is far superior to the convex shape), and not some cheap steel that has been chromed over and eventually the chrome chips into your portafilter. I highly recommend this 58mm tamp.
