Q: Has Klein fixed the battery cap issue as of Jan 2020 yet ?

I buyed in 2019 and I didn't have any issue with battery cap.

Q: How long does the Temp reading stay displayed? Only when you push the button, or does it hold for a few seconds?

It stays "on" for a few seconds

Q: Can it tell the difference between a hot and neutral wire, say when you open up a light switch?

Neutrals. When wiring lighting circuits supplied by a grounded general-purpose branch circuit, the 2011 NEC now requires you to provide a neutral conductor at nearly every switch point [404.2(C)]. The purpose for this is to complete a circuit path for electronic lighting control devices, such as occupancy sensors.
