It works on my small bamboo
I tried this immediately after opening it. I was careful with it since some people said it broke when they used it. I only used my hand to slap the top to get it started, and once it is started you can mostly tap it on the ground and the cutter slides right down the bamboo. I only cut down one cane of bamboo and then I cut the cane into three sticks and from there I used this tool on the two larger sticks. If you wanted to use this on a full length cane I think that would be a lot harder. Anyways in no time at all I had cut bamboo which I then used to make a trellis for my morning glory vine. I’ve split bamboo before using a machete and it is very hard, time consuming, and you hardly ever get good long strips doing that. This tool allows you to not only get perfect strips quickly, but it also makes the coolest sound ever when it splits down the bamboo so you have fun using it.

Simple, sturdy, effective
I love crafting with bamboo and I am used to splitting it with a machete. The problem is the split often runs off to theside and I get uneven splits. This tool did a good job splitting culms in to even quarters.

Poor quality
Only used the splitter twice and second time it broke into. Wouldn’t recommend purchasing one.

I am pleased so far
I received this much needed item and have only tried it once but so far it is great! I have heard though, that because these are made of cast iron they are subject to breaking quite easily so I shall be wary of this possibility. Other than that caveat, I will be happily be splitting bamboo with crossed fingers!

Splits Bamboo Perfectly!!
This bamboo cutter is FABULOUS!! I used it to make bamboo trellises for my clematis. I also used the trellis to make a net covered dome over my potted blackberries and raspberries. This cutter is fun to use, and very safe because your hands are out of the way on the handles (wear gloves, just in case...). I found it works best with bamboo with a minimum diameter of one inch.
