I’m new to whitting but these knives are really doing a great job

This was a Christmas present for my son. He loves it, spends many hours at his workbench whittling all kinds of neat stuff.

My husband is looking for a new hobby so this made the perfect Christmas gift. He's done a little carving before & was happy to see I had bought quality tools for the job!

So far I'm happy with the tools, knives etc. There is an issue with the spoon blank. The wood is extremely hard and difficult to carve. The hook gouge will not cut into the hard wood. The gloves are dangerous, it like trying to carve with oily hand. I can't hold onto my knives with gloves on. But by all means use a good pair of cut proof glove, I had to learn the hard way, my knife slip and cut a deep one inch gash in my thumb's heel. I ordered a better glove with rubber coating.A good starter kit especially the tools, but through away the gloves.

Super sharp and easy to use.

Doesn't arrive sharp enough to carve bass wood, be prepared to sharpen yourself, keeping in mind that the rouge and strop provided are only to maintain a sharp edge AFTER a initial sharpening.
