Q: Are you able to just put the marker on the knitting needle or are they only wide enough to go through stiches? thank you

I only have crochet hooks but I could easily pry it open to go over the full part of the hook. It fit up to a K 6.50mm needle and would probably fit a size or too bigger, depending on if you wanted it fully closed at the clasp. I have an N 10mm and it would NOT fit over that barrel. Hope this helps.

Q: do they snag the yarn?

I have not had any problem with these snagging yarn.

Q: Can you use these one-handed or do I have to put down my crocheting?

if you leave them open they close easily one handed

Q: Are these large markers?

They are not so large or heavy to get in the way. They are the same size as the ones I see in the craft and yarn stores. I didn't measure but they are probably close to an inch long. They seem just right to me. If they were larger they would get in the way. If they were smaller they would get lost in the work. They have several colors so I don't have to use one the same color as my yarn so they are easy to see. They don't come out until I take them out but then they do come out easily. I have had some problems with safety pins that got tangled in the yarn and were hard to get out. These are light weight so they don't weigh down the work. They are just what I wanted from stitch markers and that is how I use them.
