Great bang for your buck
I bought this pedal on a whim, after being unsatisfied with the built-in gain on my new amp. I was honestly not sure what to expect, reviews were good and demos were good; but I was still skeptical. But I can say for sure that this is a lot of pedal for the money and far exceeded my expectations.I've seen some people say that it's similar to the Boss HM-2, but I had an HM-2 clone and I don't feel like they are all that similar. Supposedly the Tantrum is actually an EH Metal Muff clone and that is probably more accurate. You can definitely get some serious distortion out of this box, which is what I got it for. So I can't really speak much on the lighter end of the gain spectrum, but for slightly more modern high-gain sounds, this pedal does very well. The stuff I play is mostly late 80's/early 90's thrash and death metal(ex: Death, Kreator, Slayer, etc.) and it sounds totally fine for that type of stuff. It also comes with a built-in boost, which I didn't expect to even use but actually comes in handy. It has a fully functioning "3 band" EQ with independent gain control, and all of the knobs actually do something(unlike my HM-2 clone.) Someone mentioned that it cuts out highs and while this isn't totally inaccurate, I have mine set up with a Tube Screamer in front, which pumps some high back end and gives a tiny bit more gain. All in all, it's really hard to fault this thing. I could say that it's not exactly a nice looking pedal and the plastic knobs don't exude quality....But for $30 or less, you can't really go wrong. Awesome pedal!

Gain, Gain, Gain
Alright, I bought this thing a year and a half ago when I was getting back into guitar. Thought it wasn't for me then. Put it back in the box to be lost in my closet forever. Can't remember why I even bought the thing. After a year though, I decided to start playing around with all the rando pedals I had laying dormant. I plopped this thing on after my boost and distortion as a kind of "amp in a box" in case I wanted to try something else. What I found was a wall of sound, tight, yet squishy, almost fuzz box that just sang to me like high gain, early 90's alt rock. From shoegaze to Pixies. It was just a pedal that I kept on my board in case I just wanted to rip into some noise. but tonight I wanted to rip into some metal. (was once a metal guitarist) I set this lowered the gain to half and used a Boss Blues Driver (weird, I know, but it's what I've got on the board) as a boost/distortion, plugged in my old ass LTD F100, and i'll be damned, this thing is a legit metal pedal. Definitely Boogie inspired. Is it going to rock your world with it's authenticity? No. But it really does get the job done as a metal pedal and it also gives me those 90's half stack rock vibes as well. Even at zero gain, there is a ton of gain, but it's always tight and controlled. As an old bedroom guitarist dude, this is one of the best happy accidents I've bought.

Sounds really good for $30!
For under $30 this thing sounds amazing if you're going for a high gain sound. Couldn't decide between dropping up to $300 on a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, or $200 on the EVH 5150 OD to run in front of a 90s Mesa/Boogie Subway Rocket combo for a metal sound. The Mesa has plenty of gain, but it's more of a bluesy to classic/hard rock sound. Came across a YouTube Video for this and figured for $28 why not? Definitely worth it! Super thick, crunchy, distortion for days, and sounds pretty damn good with a clean tube amp pushed to the edge of breakup. Much better than some Boss and MXR distortion pedals I have that are just way to tinny and thin sounding on the high end. Honestly, I was floored... Super fun, cheap, pedal. Reasonably easy to dial in w/ the 3 band eq, and the boost is a great feature. Metal case, the Switches seem solid and noiseless as well. No audible pop like some other pedals. The Cons: No internal battery. The battery is connected outside via an adapter at the same connection for a 9v power supply. If you use a power supply, it is a little noisy, but not unreasonable. After a Month or so of use the 9v connection has become loose, and will cut out if the cord is moved slightly. Might be an easy fix to open up and tighten from the inside but I haven't gotten around to it. Additionally, there is a slight high end peak I can't seem to dial out.Overall a surprisingly good purchase, especially if you're on a budget. For $30 it sounds really good, and would recommend it with the caveat that it may not hold up over an extended period of time. For $30? I didn't expect it to be built like a tank.

Far Higher Quality Than Expected
I recently added this pedal to my collection on a whim. I was curious about what different types of distortion pedals I could use, as I generally just use fuzz pedals for the bulk of my overdrive playing. When I play in the vein of metal, it's usually airing on the side of doom metal --- so a fuzzier tone works. However, this distortion pedal changed the game completely. The main draw is its overall sound quality --- especially for how inexpensive this thing is! I'm getting very gnarly guitar solo textures that read to me Black Sabbath/Deftones/Alice in Chains/even some hardcore progressive metal tones. If you like to bend your notes when you play, they sound especially gnarly and evil on this thing. Also, sliding your fingers up and down the fretboard alone gives you this eerie sludge metal hum. Not only am I impressed by the sound of it for the price, but also the different tricks you can pull out of your guitar just based on what kind of palette it provides you with. I haven't used many pedals that give this much life to experimental playing. I've got mine set up through a Marshall amphead + cabinet combo, which I wasn't really sure would be a good fit for this pedal --- but it surprisingly is. I use an Epiphone SG. Seems like this thing could be paired with quite a few different rigs and still sound great. I also own Caline's "Ghost Reverb" pedal, which is equally as impressive. Starting to really love this brand!
