Beautifully made tool. Made in the USA.
Things about the description in Amazon:1. Blade is 6" long, not 2.4".2. Blade is marked as D2 tool steel, not 440 C Stainless.Things I found about this knife:1. Blade is literally shaving sharp right out of the box.2. It works well chopping small saplings to make a shelter. I tried this just for the heck of it. The cutting edge was not affected at all and still shaved the hair on my arm. I did not try to split wood with it so I can't speak as to it's ability for this. I guess the knowledgeable knife crowd calls this "batoning". I carry a Condor stainless machete with me for such jobs.3. The sheath is beautifully hand made and is a testimony to the overall quality of this knife.4. The back edge of the knife is sharp enough at the corners to peel shavings off of a magnesium fire starter block. (Yes, I also tried this for the heck of it.)5. The only thing that I might change is that the edges of the last "finger choil" that allows you to choke up your grip for fine work feel uncomfortably sharp. Again, however, you can use this sharp edge for shaving off a magnesium block rather than the back of the blade itself.Overall, this is a lifetime knife that you will end up handing down. It is not a wally world special that you use for a trip and discard. It is a finely made tool with excellent construction and design that feels natural in your hand and performs wonderfully. It also does my heart good every time I see "Made in USA" on the blade and the sheath. It is a knife that some kid will someday wear while proudly saying "this was grampa's knife." Heirloom quality for sure.

Knife sheath
Knife is 5 stars, can't beat it. Sheath was cut second time knife was put back in and I was being very careful. Bad design. Now I'm gonna end up making a new one....

Superb Quality and Design
The Knives of Alaska Bush Camp knife is one of the best all-around knives I've come across. It is a quality full tang blade made of super strong D2 steel that only requires a bit of oil and a wipe down if working in wet conditions. This knife is a great survival-bushcraft tool that is razor sharp and is an excellent companion on a hunt or any outdoor excursion. This knife is made in the USA and the folks at KOA warranty it for a lifetime. You will get a registration card and a letter from the company with the knife. As a 20 year military man serving in the USMC, I would also recommend this knife for a deployment. This knife is so good I would trust my life with it in the bush. This knife will last and will be handed down to my son someday!

Way below what I expected
With first use of the KOA BushCamp knife it began to show signs of discoloration. Not uncommon for d2 steel..Leather sheath was of decent quality and stitching was good. Very sharp from the dealer. Fit and finish of this handle (rubber scales) was poor to say the least. With stamped type steel , mass produced knives, there are always sharp edges under the scales. When those handles are not placed precisely it leaves the sharp edges exposed as in this one. This flaw in production of my knife leaves a very sharp D2 edge inside the palm of the hand. Making the knife a really uncomfortable to use. The discoloration of the blade came from the humidity in the air around me. That was a bit of surprise..it has since sat inside and been fairly useless as a field knife for me. I do not think I would buy another.

great example of a work knife and true to KOA quality
This is a heavy duty blade with heft required for shelter construction or other intensive tasks. The thicker blade and the weight of the product really lets you strike wood to create notches and remove bark. the blade shape is good enough to allow some skinning or similar cooking prep work with the rounded edge but not ideal for that task due to the size of this knife.Keep in mind that the product page says 440C steel but I'm fairly sure this knife was never offered in 440C and is actually D2 tool steel. That does not mean you need to freak out because that is actually a good thing. Blade material is a personal choice S30V, 440C, etc, etc. There are reasons people like ones better and some of those reason matter in the field (some don't). D2 is without a doubt longer lasting and tougher than stainless. Stainless also does not hold a sharp edge as long and can chip easier. D2 does require care because it will rust eventually if left unoiled or in a wet environment. The tasks you'll use this knife for will require a tougher blade so D2 is perfect.

GREAT KNIFE FOR HARD USE
Knife is beautifully made. Good, sharp steel and non-slip grip. GREAT knife; looks like it will last a long time. The sheath is not as good. The first one I got had missing and bad stitching. KNIVES OF ALASKA replaced the sheath immediately with expedited shipping. The 2nd sheath had a snap so stiff it could hardly be opened; felt like it would pull through leather if not corrected. I spent some time with sandpaper and got the snap to work correctly. The leather is not real substantial but OK. I have absolutely no beef with KOA as they responded immediately to the really bad sheath; the 2nd one was fixed with a few minutes time and a piece of sandpaper. It is too bad though that such a GREAT, Quality knife does not have a better sheath. A little heavier duty sheath and this knife would be one that would rival or best any other on the market. This knife is a worker.

But cabelas has this knife new in the box for like 80 bucks
The knife itself gets a five star rating. But cabelas has this knife new in the box for like 80 bucks? Way over priced.

It is the best knife for the $
My first one was chipped on bone. Still bought a second one. The tip as any D2 material is fragile. As a Chef and hunter. It is the best knife for the $
