It is a solid case, much better than I thought it would be. As for waterproof, it doesn't say that it is but it does have a seal and a pressure valve so I would be happy for it to be out in the rain and not worry about water getting inside.

Q: what is the Air valve?

The air valve allows the pressure inside the case to equalise with the outside pressure. Imagine you close the case somewhere at a decent altitude - let's say you're somewhere in the Alps at 2000m above sea level - the air pressure there is going to be about 80% of that at sea level. Now you take the case down to sea level and try to open it - it's going to be difficult to open as without the valve, it's still at 80kPa but there's 100kPa of pressure pushing down on the lid. The other way is also true - the lid can violently open if you opened it at altitude when you closed it at sea level as the pressure inside the case would be higher than the atmospheric pressure where you opened it and that air would force itself out. The pressure equalisation valve prevents this problem.
