Had this to check my oil level for gearbox, However it is longer than needed, which i knew before buying.But you have to` feel` for it touching the bottom of the oil pan, rather than a normal dipstick for engine oil. Which you just have to put in all the way to the collar of the handle. It would have been better to have been the correct length so you could just do the same , and take away the guess work of trying to feel it touching the bottom, it takes a while to get it right, and i did it a few times to get it correctly.
