Nov 2019 Comparison: Regalo vs Summer Infant Portable Play Yards
The most recent comparison between these 2 produce was in Nov 2017, so I decided to order both and do my own comparison. See below. The Regalo and Summer Infant (Original) pop up play yards are basically the exact same overall product with a few minor differences. My choice about which to keep is based solely on how convenient each is for our specific needs and method of use. This may be completely different for someone else with different needs. In short, if I would primarily keep it assembled and only break it down a few times a month, I’d most certainly go with the superiorly constructed Summer Infant product, especially since at the time of purchase, Summer was $44 and Regalo was $66 (but new, open box was $38). However, since we only wanted to purchase 1 play space and will frequently move it from the first floor (main space) to the third floor (office) as well as take to friends’ non-infant/toddler-proofed houses, Regalo seems like the better option for our particular needs. Additionally, even though I’m not the most experienced seamstress, I can decently hand repair problems with stitching as they develop. Both:*Compact and easy to carry in included bag with strap*Thin fabric for floor, requires foam mat or blanket between floor and the product if you have hardwood floors like us. (This is NOT the case for the upgraded Sweetlife version of the Summer Infant, currently $89.99 with a padded floor, but outside our budget.)*Hard cross-bars that others have mentioned could be a safety hazard (but easily fixed with foam plumbing pipe insulation for ~$1.20/6ft piece from big box hardware stores.)RegaloPros:*Faster assembly (click down two bars at foot level, once removed from carry bag, it takes <30 sec) - likely once I’m more experienced, I should be able to complete this even with an infant in arms*Can set the tautness of straps around each of the 6 feet, and can maintain how taut when take down for transport and reassembled - important as I will be frequently disassembling and reassembling.*Fabric (sides and bottom as 1 piece) can be removed from the frame for washing. Although it clearly states not to machine wash (see pic), it does not state anywhere that it can’t be fully submerged to hand wash in a laundry tub. As an alternative, the fabric can be placed in a large hand wash laundry bag for gentle cleaning in wash machines, but I’d probably still do this on gentle cycle and only with mild detergent.Cons:*Bottom of fabric doesn’t reach the floor near the outer perimeter. I’m not sure yet what that means for the durability of the seams between the mesh and the floor fabric, but I’d assume the seam will take more stress when little one is playing around the perimeter.*Poor stitching quality, especially around the upper part of the frame*Mesh is not as tightly held to the frame on the crossbars, however, this is because it isn’t permanently attached but instead has Velcro’s straps (see pro about removal of fabric from frame)Summer InfantPros:*Much better stitching quality and therefore likely to last longer*Fabric at bottom of playpen goes the whole way to the floor, including around perimeter. I’m assuming this will mean that the stitching holding the mesh sides to the floor fabric will undergo less stress and therefore f be more durable*Mesh is held tightly to the crossbar parts of the frame by permanent attachment points.Cons:*Slower assembly (though is still <3min, so it is still great) and requires 6 straps be slid over each of 6 feet and then each individually tightened by a pull down strap.*Method to disassemble requires loosening of straps and sliding off each foot, so I’m unable to maintain the tautness when moving this upstairs.*Fabric is permanently attached to the frame and therefore cannot be removed to wash. The Regalo claims you should only sponge/spot clean anyways (see pic), so if you plan to follow those instructions, this would similarly be a con for the Regalo too, making the ease of fabric/mesh removal a relatively moot point.

Simple and effective - Even after 6 years.
I purchased this for my son back in 2019. I wanted something that could be used both indoors and outdoors and travel easily. I wasn't concerned about space and size, but I wanted convenience and minimal pieces. We LOVED having it. It was one of those peace-of-mind items where I could happily place my child in there to quickly run to the restroom or complete tasks around the home.It was carefully stored away and brought back out for my daughter in 2021.It is once again stored carefully and taken out with younger nieces and nephews. This will be a tricky item to one day give away!Even with all of the new and improved playpens out there, this is still a gem of a purchase for my household.

The playard is spacious and sturdy, providing a safe space for play without feeling confined. Its lightweight design and compact fold make it easy to carry, and the mesh sides allow for good visibility and airflow. Highly recommend for parents looking for a portable, convenient play space!

Perfect for what we needed.
Inevitably around that 6 month mark you have a decision to make, how are we going to stop this baby from crawling all the places we don't want him to crawl when you need to do the dishes, laundry, or other mundane normal activity. Also with 2 older girls and all of their toys it is almost impossible to keep a house child-proofed, so if your eyes need to be off him for a second you need a safe place to set him down.I did quite a bit of research looking into plastic and metal playpens, but the overall theme was that they are hard to set up and take down, and are normally stationary, even if they don't say so. We finally decided on this summer portable because the thinking is we can carry it up and down stairs, set it up when doing housework, and travel with it to the beach or park when needed. On un-boxing you find a duffle bag that looks very similar to beach chairs with a small footprint and an over the shoulder carrier. To unravel you just spread it apart and it extends out to 90% of its octagon shape. You need to loop 6 straps to get that last 10% extension and help secure the frame that will eventually hold your standing little guy.I was surprised at how light this is but overjoyed at the sturdy feeling once fully extended. I also enjoyed the bottom tarp so bugs, sticks and outer outdoor debris are a temptation for a very curious little one.Size-wise this is probably perfect for 6-12 months, because it has enough space to crawl around and more than enough space to scatter toys around. I'm guessing once we hit the 12-24 mark there will be a time when this "huge" new world is no longer that interesting and climbing out will be the new challenge. We've been using this for a few weeks and it's worked exactly as intended. It let's us load some dishes, do some basic housework or keeps him to a safe confined and enjoyable space when we need to and travels easily. Overall I would recommend this as an easy transport and safe environment for your little guy.
