Q: Please can I just check - are these slightly conical correct? so base smaller than top? thanks

They are not conical, they are the same width at base and rim.

Q: Why are these tins 7” at the base 8” at the top? Have purchased these, washed them, just got the out and realised they are not 8” at base.

They are seven and a half inches as they taper in but don't think it matters they are very nice to use

Q: How deep are the tins?

They are 4 1/2cms deep. Really good quality, I love them!

Q: Would this work as a frying pan for a camping stove?

These are not designed to have heat directly on them. A flame or even an electric hob exceeds the temperature that these tins can stand, even though they are designed for ovens that reach over 200C. Flames are many 100's, can't remember what propane or butane is but it's over 1100C, I think, but whatever it is, it's way more than 200C. That being said, NO you cannot use it as a frying pan on a camping gaz, stove or open fire or any direct flame!
