Great to use in my local lake and shallow water. I wouldn't take this to open ocean or anywhere down really 25'-50' or any deeper. I mainly use it to spear striper as it is one of the unprotected species here. This is the second pole spear I have purchased, the first was a 7 foot with the paralyzer tip, this one seems just as sturdy and more for intermediate fisherman who really want to keep their fish on the pole. I fish mainly deep rivers and shallow streams so this is perfect for me. The product is as described and as you can see from the majority of reviews its well worth the money. I ordered this spear "Scuba Choice 6' One Piece Spearfishing Fiber Glass Pole Spear with 1 Prong Single Barb Tip" fulfilled by Amazon. The item arrived quickly but It was missing both the spear tip and the rubber sling. A replacement was sent also missing the spear tip and rubber sling. I was never able to get the spear tip or band and I guess Amazon gives up after two attempts.As for the poles themselves, they are fine. They are fairly straight with a sloppy drill hole in the end to attach the band. Poles measure 61" to the start of the thread.

Great little pole spear. On a recent trip to Baja, I gave this spear it's baptism. It worked great on small (1-2 pound) fish, but I would be a little cautious about spearing anything much bigger - because the fiberglass pole is very "flexible" - not a lot of firm support on a struggling fish. I specifically bought this spear for the thin "1 prong tip" - which I really like for the smaller fish. Shoots right through - little chance of "bouncing off" the fish, and the barb not engaging, as I have had happen many times before with the "standard width" tip. However, with this tip arrangement, there are 2 chances for the tip to twist off - as the thin tip screws into a larger base, which then screws onto the spearpole. Not a big problem - just make sure everything is tight, since it seems to be a universal law that speared fish will ALWAYS spin in the same direction to unscrew the tip! I dropped one star because of the "lightweight" pole - it could be a little heavier duty, making it more appropriate for bigger fish.

Great spear, but it came without the tip. Not really usable without it.

Used in recent Bahamas for reef fish, lobster and protection! worked great, caught fish and had ceviche!:)
