Great Book! In Depth
The book adds a lot of depth and background to what you are reading as you read the scriptures. You are able to have a more complete view of the context and cultural timing of the passages which is really helpful! I highly recommend this book!

Get proper help understanding how each of the individual books fits into the Bible as a whole.
This is a worthwhile resource for every Christian because it equips them to “make sense” of the Bible’s multiple, varied parts. The Bible is focused on one Person (Christ) yet sometimes when reading particular books, it can become confusing as to how small pieces fit into the entire drama of redemption. This is where this book provides the most value: it shows you how each of the Bible’s books fits into the larger story. So, if you’ve ever read the Bible and wondered, “What’s the point of this?” or “How is this relevant?” then I think you will benefit much from this book. And by no means does this book-by-book Bible tour require any special knowledge or to be an “expert.” It does entail just being a regular person so that you can learn some general principles. Each chapter follows the same format: (I) "Orienting Data" that describes the content, historical context and the emphasis of the book (II) An overview of the entire book that talks about big themes and provides specific advice for reading (III) A “Walk Through” that provides chapter-by-chapter guidance on explaining what the text means and how it fits in with the author’s intent (IV) A conclusion that ties the book’s message into the whole cannon of Scripture. The final thing that I will say is that (obviously) you don’t want to read a book on how to read the Bible and not read the actual Bible! Consequently, this is a great resource to use when you (or your church) are doing a Bible reading plan or reading through the whole Bible together. The Bible’s worth is infinite, and this text will help to open your eyes to see the coherent sweetness, splendor and the excellence of the Word of God. This also makes a worthwhile companion to the other book written by the same authors, How to Read the Bible for All its Worth.

Good Biblical Introduction
Dr. Fee's presentation of the biblical material is clear, concise, and up to date. He takes the fruits of biblical scholarship and makes them available to the average lay reader, while not losing sight of what the original authors of the material intended. A strong point of the book is the fact that it situates each of the biblical books and the material they contain within the historical horizon of Israels encounter with God and the World. For the careful reader Dr Fee's material will help define the central importance of the issue of the 'mission to the Gentiles'--which first presents itself in Genesis narrative, particularly when God initiates the covenant with Abraham. God's choice of Israel is the beach head from which the salvation of the world is launched. This fulfillment of God's purpose is dramatized by Israel's encounter with the nations about her and her response to that encounter right up to, and including the New Testament and continues to the present. This is high drama, indeed, and this book helps the average person to see the drama and, better, their place in it.Jim Woods

a handy, accessible resource
In typical fashion, the authors pack a lot of insight into a short number of pages. Each book of the Bible is summarized well with a variety of thought-provoking commentary.
