Great Value
This is by far the best can opener of this style I've found in many years. Not only does it work great but comes with extra cutting wheels which will be very easy to change out when the time comes. This is a sturdy high quality can opener that should last for years.

Very good can opener!
I was trying to find a good can opener, easy to use and cut smoothly. Through the search on Amazon and many kinds even with the brand ones like kitchen aid, but I chose to buy this one. What caught my eyes is a video one customer uploaded. After I received, I immediately tried to open a can. It is very impressive! If you are in a need to find a can opener, this is the one!

Never Again!
I purchased this item October 18 of 2018. Today is July 7, 2019. This unit broke last week. It lasted slightly over 8 months. My wife was opening a can last week and a small wire inside the unit broke and jammed the cutter up. I looked at it and cannot see where it can be repaired. The small wire that broke seems to have some function inside the cutter. I do not recommend this can opener. It worked nice while it was operational, but it cannot be used since that small wire broke. We will look for something better. Not worth the 15 plus dollars it cost.

Not all cans are created equal
I have never used a side opener such as this. I bought three openers for myself and for friends. The first 14 oz. can was easy. It worked well and was not difficult to turn the handle. Then a larger 26 oz can was tried. It was opened by an elderly friend who said 'this is hard to open" so I took over and I agreed with her that it was indeed difficult to turn the crank. I was able to open it using more force than should be necessary. All I can say is maybe the cans get thicker as they get larger. Don't expect all cans to open easily. No sharp edges along with a lid that can be replaced for storage if needed is unique. This style opener will be kept, but it won't be used all of the time.

Great opener but not a good fit if you have arthritis or weakness in your hands
Personally, I love this can opener. It opens on the bottom of the edge of the can, forming a little lid that can be used. However, this part of the can is thicker than the lid part, so it takes quite a bit more hand strength to open a can this way than the traditional way (cutting the top of the can, along the inside of the rim). My kids can barely open cans using this opener (they choose to use their Swiss army knives since that opener is easier to use for them than this one is!) Therefore, I would not recommend this for anyone with arthritis or weakness in the hands.

Just an ok can opener
This is a pretty cheap can opener, and is a little hard to use (difficult to turn the handle). I have not used the bottle opener so cannot comment yet on it. But, was expecting a little easier can opener to use, and a little better craftsmanship. Kind of cheap. But it works.

Small and efficient. I would recommend it to everyone!
Once you figure it out, it is so cool! I like having no sharp edges left and I like the small profile of the can opener. It fits much better in my drawer than any other ones I’ve had. One disadvantage with this type of can opener is that it is harder to drain things. For example, with the classic cutting can openers, the lid fits into the can still and can be pushed against the food inside to squeeze all the liquid out. This opener simply unseals the lid rather than cutting it off, so the lid is left bigger than the opening.

A wrist-saver, and great for large families
[Update: after using it more than two years, it's still going strong. We've not had to sharpen or replace the blade. All I've done to maintain it is add a little oil a couple of times a year to keep it turning easy. Wipe it down after you use it (especially if can contents slosh out), and it will stay in great shape for years.]Well, if you're reading this review after browsing to the Edlund #1 Commercial Can Opener (with base), then I'll assume you fall into one of three categories: you're involved in food service somewhere (e.g., restaurant, soup kitchen), you have a large family that uses a lot of institutional sized (10#) cans, or you are wondering if something like this might work for someone with arthritis. I find myself in the latter two categories. This opener brought to an end our practice of buying and wearing out traditional, hand-held can openers. We're a big family and open a lot of institutional sized cans. I have no complaints. This opener can handle them all--even little tuna cans. Since we're not a restaurant, our biggest issue was deciding where to mount the base plate. We opted for a corner of one of our countertops in the area with the least foot traffic. Mounting the base plate required drilling holes through the countertop, then installing machine screws and nuts (provided). If we want the extra counter space (e.g., when hosting), the opener can be removed from the bracked and stored in a drawer or cabinet.Turning the crank sure beats trying to turn those little handles on the hand-held openers we've used all these years. My wife has recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her fingers (sadly so, because she is so young), so this is a real hand-saver for her.
